Hi I'm Steve Garvin

I grew up in Boise, Idaho. I enjoy backpacking and camping in Colorado. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Most importantly, I am a husband and a father. I married my best friend from high school after 8 years of dating and having fun together. It was worth the wait! I feel I am so lucky for "marrying up" as she inspires me to be my best self every day. I have three awesome sons, who are the highlight of my life as a father. I enjoy being a part of the Boy Scouts of America and have done so for over 13 years as an adult, in addition to my 6 years as a youth. I have completed seven 50-mile hiking/canoeing trips with Scouts and have summitted four 14,000-foot peaks in the state of Colorado, our current home. I have 54 to go to climb all 58! I love being out in the wonders of nature, it helps me appreciate the splendor of God's creations and I feel closer to Him and at peace when I am out there. I love to play the piano, eat good food (and dessert), visit new places, meet new people, serve those in need, and have fun! I love to read and have a hard time passing up the chance to own another good book. I love science fiction and super-hero movies where the flawed character overcomes self and evil, it is just like life! It is very challenging, at times, to keep perspective on what is really important in life when everyday stress can be overwhelming and exhausting. I try to remember that there is a greater purpose in life and that I just need to keep focused on trying to follow my Savior, Jesus Christ, be the best husband and father that I can, and help others in need.

Why I am a Mormon

I know there is a God, our Heavenly Father. I know his Son, Jesus Christ, paid the penalties of sin for me and has given the gift of the resuurection to all of our Father's children. I have felt the Holy Ghost bear this witness to me many times. I have felt that assurance in my heart with feelings of peace, with that burning feeling when you just KNOW something is true, and by speaking to me in my mind that assurance that what I am feeling is knowledge from God. I have always had faith since a child, but that reassurance and knowledge has grown throughout my life with repeated experiences where the Spirit has witnessed to me that what I know is true. God is not the author of confusion, he wants all of His children to return to Him. He will guide us to truth if we are willing to listen. I have seen the joy that comes into people's lives when they find their Savior and His church while serving as a missionary in Australia. I have seen miracles occur to guide people to the Truth, the Way, and the Life. I know that God follows patterns. One of His patterns is that He calls Prophets to guide people to truth and to call them to repentance. It has been so since the beginning of time. It is the same today. There is a living Prophet guiding every listening individual to the Truth and to the Savior's church. We can know this of ourselves through the witness of the Holy Ghost.

How I live my faith

I try to live my life so that others would know that I follow Jesus Christ. I know I can only do my best and that I have to keep trying despite how weak I am in following Him. I love my Savior! I am so grateful for His sacrifice, love, and Atonement. I try to show my love for Him by helping others. I like to speak up about having good morals and values and principles when I meet with friends, neighbors, and co-workers. I try to select leaders locally and nationally that will uphold conservative principles and our nation's constitution. In the Church, I work with young children in helping them learn and sing songs about their Savior so that their faith can be nutured and so that they can learn to feel the Spirit in their lives. I also work with the teachers of youth who are 14-18 in helping them to be effective teachers of the scriptures and the youth they teach every morning. I also believe that being a good husband and father is one of the best ways that I can strengthen this nation and guide my children to be good citizens and someone who will stand up for the rights and privileges of others, even if their beliefs or lifestyles are different from their own. We are all brothers and sisters, children of our Heavenly Father, and we need to treat each other as family members, helping each other in times of need, lifting each other when we are down, and loving each other despite our differences.
