Hi I'm Derick

I grew up in Texas. My wife and I have two young children. I'm a product management consultant. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have been married for a little over 6 years. My wife and I have two beautiful young children. I love spending time with my family and going hiking in the outdoors. We enjoy going on road trips as a family and visiting new places. I love woodworking and enjoy turning my garage into a workshop during the Holiday season. I have always enjoyed gardening and working with plants, from fruit & nut trees, to vegetable gardens. Growing up my family owned a Peach Orchard. I find family histories extremely interesting. Learning about by ancestors, the lifestyles they had, and the trials and blessings they enjoyed, helps me discover characteristics about myself as well. I enjoy reading, whether it is a business book on leadership or a novel about adventures and historical fictions. My favorite authors are James Fenimore Cooper and James Michener. Growing up I went country dancing a lot, being from Texas there were lots of places to go dancing. I have recently taken up photography, and am enjoying it. I'm still try to learn everything that goes into good pictures. I enjoy scenic pictures as well as pictures documenting my family trips for us to remember later in life. I played the trombone when I was in school, and although I rarely play anymore, I still love to listen to others playing instruments.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents raised me in this church. Throughout my life I have learned of God's love for each one of us. I had many experiences where I felt the Holy Spirit confirming to me that my Heavenly Father was there and that he wants me to have a happy and joyful experience in this life. I know the Book of Mormon is a true account of God's teachings to an ancient people on the American continent. I have exercised Moroni's promise in the end of the book and have asked my Heavenly Father if it was true. I know that through the prophet Joseph Smith, the priesthood of God was restored to the earth. I know and have witnessed this priesthood power. I know that miracles are not a thing of the past, but have experienced miracles in my life. I know that Jesus Christ is our savior and has the power to heal us both physically and spiritually. His atonement for our sins is real. Even when I felt completely lost and wasn't sure how I got where I was, I still felt promptings telling me that God still loved me and that I could change my life and be happy. The Gospel that we live in this Church, teaches us how to live our life and exercise our ability to choose in ways that will bring us happiness.

How I live my faith

I am a member of a very large ward with lots of young families. The fellowship and support we give to each other is very important to me. I used to teach and work with the youth. I am always impressed with how much these teenagers have to deal with on a daily basis, and how much faith they have. My wife and I love to celebrate and make Holidays special. We get involved in craft shows and hosting holiday get together' s for people in our ward and neighborhood to work on decorations and activities to make the Holiday's special moments for them and their families to remember. I love to sit with my wife and kids and have Family Home Evening. My children are very young so it is sometimes challenging to teach the principles at a level that they can understand and apply as well as keep them engaged for the duration of the lesson.
