Hi I'm Sam

I'm a scientist, I'm a sports nut, I love to travel and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've been married for almost two years and I love it! We are expecting our first child in December which I'm both thrilled and nervous about. I have studied a bachelor of Science (Ecology) and a Masters of Project Management. I currently work as an Environmental Scientist which dovetails nicely with my love of (and for) the outdoors. I love to travel. I love the feeling exploring and experiencing different cultures. One thing that always strikes me is that we are all essentially the same and have the same basic needs and desires in life, no matter where we are from or what our background. I love my sport. I'll go to or watch just about any sporting event - much to the dismay of my wife. I love watching the best sports men and women perform at their peak and I enjoy the spectacle of watching something unfold that has never happened before - where the outcome isn't written and result is still to be decided and where the possibility of seeing a feat of courage, strength, bravery or skill fills me with awe. One of my favourite experiences has been attending the FIFA world cup in Germany 2006 and the Rugby world cup in France 2007. I also love participating in sports and play on teams with friends, or against friends on a regular basis. Sports of choice to play are Squash, Futsal, Football (soccer), Netball and Touch Football.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I love the Gospel. I love the joy and peace that it brings to my life. I love the direction it provides my life. For me, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints provides direction, clarity and certainty in a world that seems lost, confused and fickle. Although being raised surrounded by the teachings of the Gospel, I had to make the decision at a young age whether to continue to follow those teachings. I made that decision and I stick by it to this day.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith by placing priority on the simple things: caring for and fostering loving family relationships; being honest, being kind to strangers and being trustworthy; providing support to those in need; reading scriptures and praying on a regular basis; going to church regularly; and spending time on those things that are important to you. I'm a firm believer that if we look after the simple things, the big things will take care of themselves. When I try and help other people, I often discover that their problems and difficulties can be traced back to the time that they began to neglect the simple things in life. I have learned that it's not until we're able to support ourselves that we can support other people.
