Hi I'm Alayna

I just graduated from the University of Utah in music education. I'm looking to be a band/orchestra teacher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I just graduated college. I am looking to be a band/orchestra teacher, but have had trouble finding a job. I want to keep up my music and teaching skills, so I substitute teach in a few districts and play in a local wind ensemble.

Why I am a Mormon

I've been a member of the Curch of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon) my whole life, but there was one point in college where I doubted my religion. I had a lot of friends who would tease me about being a Mormon and challenge my beliefs. I started wondering if it was really as true as I thought it was. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore and went to my parents. I told them that I wasn't sure if the Church was true and that I didn't know what to do. I thought they would be upset, but to my suprise, they kindly told me that all of my siblings went through the same thing. They told me that I needed to find out for myself it it was true. So I did. I started reading the Book of Mormon and conference talks regularly. I also asked God to help me know if all I had been taught was true. I started reading a book about one of our past prophets, President Spencer W. Kimball. He had a way of saying things that made me understand. Through scriptures, prayer, and faith that God would tell me the truth, I found out for myself that this is truly His church upon the earth.

How I live my faith

My church calling is participating in the Institute Council in my young single adult ward. Institute is the speacial organization the Church provides for young single adults. You don't have to be a member to go to institute. it's basically a place where we can learn about the Church through different classes and teachers. There are classes that focus on specific standard works like the Book of Mormon and the Bible. There are also other classes like Teachings of the Living Prophets, Gospel Doctrine, and Preparing for Eternal Families and Marriage. Often times, institutes are on college campuses and provide fun activities outside of the classes like dances and other social activities. Through my calling, I have the opportunity to attend and support all these activities and invite others in my ward to participate also. I have a strong testimony of institute and love my calling! I also have the opportunity to sing in my ward choir. I also sing in one of the local institute chioirs. Since I graduated in music education, I like having choir experience in case I have to teach it. I'm mainly an instrumentalist, so I'll take as much singing experience I can get!

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Alayna
The best way to know if Mormonism is true, is to try it out and ask God if it is true. Read the Book of Mormon. Pray to God to know if it is true. Attend church meetings. Ask God if what you learned from them is true. If you sincerely want to know, and pray with sincerity, God will let you know. Usually with a feeling of peace. But He will let you know in his own way and time. You might not get an answer right away. Continue to study and talk to missionaries. Missionaries can and want to help you. Show more Show less
