Hi I'm Rachel

I am a Mother of 5 children, 4 boys and 1 girl. The longest I have lived in one place is 9 1/2 years. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mother of 5 children, 4 of them are boys. This is my second year as a cub scout den leader for the Wolf den. I love being a Cub Scout Den Leader. I feel that the principles and practices of Cub Scouts and all the Boy Scout programs are divinely inspired. I graduated from college with a Bachelors of Science in Secondary Education. I taught High School Biology for three years and then became a full time Mother. I like to cook and make preserves. I like to learn about my family history. I love my children. I love my Husband. I am training for a triathelon.

Why I am a Mormon

I moved around a lot my whole life. Up until I was married the longest I had lived in one place was 4 years. One comforting thought that I frequently had when I was young was : I know the church is true and it is the same no matter where I live. I have been blessed with a desire to learn the scriptures and the gospel. I remember having questions and desires to know what was true. I would go to the scriptures and pray to the Lord with my questions and the answers always came. Sometimes they were soft promptings, feelings of assurance, and confidence in my choices. Sometimes they were words from the scriptures or words from the prophet that came to my mind. One time the answer was a vivid and clear "NO". The answers have always come. When I was 18, I was struggling because of the choices of others in my life. I felt that I needed to know for myself what was true from all that I was taught in my youth. I needed to know if the church was true, if the Book of Mormon was true, if Joseph Smith was a prophet. The words that came to me were from the Prophet Ezra Taft Benson and from Alma 32. I decided that I needed to 'experiment on the word'. The experiment I set up in my life at that time was on the promise that 'if I would read the Book of Mormon every day for a month then I would know that the book was true'. It was through this experiment that I came to know for myself that the Book of Mormon is true and is another Testament of Jesus Christ. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is true and that Joseph Smith is a prophet of God. I know that the Prophet Thomas S. Monson and the 12 apostle of this church are called of God as special witnesses of Jesus Christ. My prayers on each of these things have been answered by God. I know that I am a child of God. He is aware of me and loves me.

How I live my faith

I enjoy being a Cub Scout Den Leader. This is my 2nd year as a Wolf den leader. I am learning a lot. It is fun to have "fun with a purpose". I like the excitement of the boys. I like to come up with cheers and teach them new things. I like to give them opportunities to think about characteristics like Honesty, Respect, and Positive Attitude. It takes a lot of planning to have a fun den and pack meeting. I also like the motto of Cub Scouts "Do your Best". It helps me remember that my best is acceptable too.

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

Rachel
My faith in Jesus Christ has been increased 'line upon line and precept upon precept, here a little and there a little'. I find that how I act upon my faith either will nourish it or starve it. If I take what I learn and apply the principles that I am studying in the scriptures and that I hear from the words of the prophets, I draw closer to the Lord, I feel his Love, and my faith increases. When I allow other things, distractions, and pursuits to interfere and draw me away from the simple things that build my relationship with God, such as: Prayer and Scripture study - My faith diminishes.
