Hi I'm David

My wife and I just celebrated our 31st anniversary. We have 4 adult children and 2 grandchildren.

About Me

My interests include current events, politics, religion, computers, investing, photography, writing, golf, football, baseball, motorcycle riding and lots of other things. I am trying to do something to build my fitness and health every day. I have practiced law for 25 years and am interested in how laws and corporate policies affect ordinary people. I served as a full-time missionary in Japan and still enjoy studying the language and eating Japanese food! I am interested in my family history and genealogy and have created a couple of family history media projects over the last several years to celebrate the lives of my mother and father-in-law. I have all kinds of music on my iPod including country, classical, opera, and pop. I enjoy Sports Illustrated, Golf Digest, Ensign, The New Era, The Economist and the daily newspaper. I like working in the yard, doing odd jobs around the house and travel. When I take time for a vacation I like to see and do things.

Why I am a Mormon

I believe we are all eternal beings having a mortal experience. I believe we lived before we came to this earth and that we will all live after we leave this earth. I believe we have a Heavenly Father who loves us and wants us to be happy, and to become like him. I believe this earth was created as a place where God's children can learn and grow, be taught and be tested. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who came to this earth to teach and set a pattern for God-like behavior AND to suffer and atone for the inevitable sins of God's children. I believe that through Jesus Christ, I can obtain forgiveness of my sins and be accepted back into God's presence, where I can continue to grow and progress. I believe The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the restoration of the true kingdom of God on earth which began with Adam and Eve, and that it provides wonderful opportunities for me to learn and grow and serve Heavenly Father by ministering to His children on earth. I believe this church provides me a concrete way to know, worship and follow the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

Compared to God, I am a weak and imperfect and flawed man--hopelessly incapable of saving myself and becoming acceptable to Heavenly Father. But I believe He loves me and wants me to draw close to Him and to obey His commandments. He wants me to follow and emulate His matchless Son, our Savior. He wants me to believe in and follow Jesus and accept Him as my only hope of salvation. I try to obey the commandments, teach my family, serve others and give generously. I try to share the good news of the gospel with family and friends and others, when moved by the spirit. I believe the church is an excellent vehicle for providing me opportunities to extend myself, stretch and grow. I want it to be an open and diverse community of believers and pre-believers, a family of God's children worthy of His guidance and approval. Over the years I have served in many positions in the church which have given me opportunities to love and serve and teach others. I find that when I am busy in helping and teaching and serving others, I stay focused on what's important in life. I think if I stopped serving and participating, I might turn my focus too much toward myself and begin to miss the needs and hopes and fears of others, and drift away from Heavenly Father. In this complex and chaotic world, I believe daily prayer, regular scripture study and weekly church participation gives me the best chance to remember the promises I have made to follow Jesus and obey the commandments. Also, I think it's important to listen for the promptings of the Holy Spirit guiding me to say and do the right things.
