Hi I'm Alan

I grew up on a farm in Michigan, I'm an entrepreneur, an internet geek, and a father of four great kids...and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I work in a big city, but grew up on a small farm in the country. My experiences range from growing crops to growing businesses, from skinning deer to skinning websites. Need to pluck a chicken? I'm your guy. Need search engine optimization? no problem. Investing advice you got it, business start-up experience you bet! Working is my hobby...I love to dream about new businesses. My wife and 4 children are pretty accustomed to a regular dose of crazy new ideas from Dad. One of my favorite business ideas is building the "ice cream castle". A facade like a castle, castle shaped cones, and dragon sprinkles...hey, I didn't say my ideas were great...just that I have lots of them! I wasn't always active as a youth, but thankfully got my act together and served a wonderful mission in Mexico. My wife and I met before my mission and not long after my return we got married in the temple. I love it when people say, "Oh, she waited for you"...that's probably not a very accurate description, unless you consider dating multiple guys and a marriage proposal as part of the "waiting" process. I seriously lucked out that she was still single and had any interest in a scrawny little farm boy like me when I returned. I totally married up!

Why I am a Mormon

I love being a Mormon! Some people are of our faith because they "grew up" in the church, others who were not raised in the church have had fantastic conversion experiences and joined. Me, well, I am somewhere in between. Not always being active in the church as a youth, and growing up as part of a tiny tiny branch in a city with only a handful of members gives you a different perspective on being a Mormon. My testimony grows every day as I watch those who "live" the gospel, and those who treat it more casually. It is clear to me that the Lord blesses those who try their very best to live his teachings. I love watching my children grow in the church, live the standards they are taught, and benefit from the blessings of righteous living. Do we "always" do the right thing...of course not...lol. There are definitely days when I want to strangle Yoda for saying "there is no 'try', there is only 'do'"...because some days all I have is "try". That's the other reason I love being a Mormon, because I know how to repent, and how to pick myself back up when I make those mistakes.

How I live my faith

Within the church I have had many callings, and the thing I love most about them is the opportunity it gives me to serve. When I think of how the Savior spent his life in service, I can't help but get feelings of gratitude when I'm given the chance to help others. Service...that's where it's at! Yup.
