Hi I'm Robert

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a Mining Engineer by training, graduating from the University of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia in 1983 - the year Australia won the Americas Cup world series super-yaht race... I think we beat Dennis Conner racing on the "Stars and Stripes". I grew up travelling all over Australia and New Zealand, and have never lived more thaan a few months in the city of my birth, Melbourne. I have always loved snow skiing having first being on skis at age 5 on Mt Ruapehu on the North Island. Since returning to live in Australia at age 10, I lived on the far North Coast of New South Wales where I fell in love with the sport of surfing and continued for 14 years surfing up and down the East Coast of Australia. At age 17, I reignited my snow skiing passion, starting in Thredbo in the Snowy Mountains of Australia, I have been skiing ever since and now live with my family these many years later in Colorado, as I know it, Skiers Heaven! It was through skiing that I met my wife from Salt Lake City and it was she who introduced me to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Our family comprises myself, my wife Jen, and our four beautiful girls, aged 8 to 16. They all ski :-) well but their passions follow their mothers and that is Horse Riding and 3-day Event competitions. We live on a small farm and lately I have taken to the next phase of activity - that of Motor Cycling, both on and off-road.

Why I am a Mormon

I was brought up as a Christian and always felt myself to be spiritual. When I met my wife-to-be, we sat down and discussed our beliefs and understanding of spiritual things. I was very impressed and moved by her clear and simple explanation of her belief and explanation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and what it meant in her life and the life of her family. It amazed me that in essence, we were not far apart in our religious beliefs and so we went forward knowing that we could be together and worship together and build a home where we could raise a family with a common understanding and teaching for the benefit of our children and our relationship. I studied with the missionaries who completed my understanding of Heavenly Father's plan for me and gladly embraced the Gospel of Jesus Christ as it has been restored by a Prophet - Joseph Smith. I read the Book of Mormon and was impressed with its teaching. I had studied the Holy Bible all of my life and found this book and the teachings of the Latter-day prophets of the LDS Church as presented in the Doctorine and Covenants, with the Pearl of Great Price, was entirely complimentary and truly another testament to the life, ministry and saving mission of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The Church has enlivened my existence with a sense of purpose and destiny. My membership has blessed me and my family in countless ways through providing purpose and a opprtunitues to be of service to others. This has always been taught in the Holy Scriptures and encourage by prophets and Church Leaders. The Church teaches that living the commandments with faith and discipline and giving selfless service to others is the only way to true peace and happiness - and I testify that this is true. It has been true in my life and I value my membership as a blessing and a foundation upon which to build a home of sanctuary and safety in a troubled world. My time with family attending Church and participating in the Gospel is priceless!

How I live my faith

I live my faith by honoring the Church calls to service extended to me by local Church leaders who are, in turn, called to preside over me. Currently my calling is to serve as an assistant to the High Priest Group Leader in our Ward. This involves attending meetings and training sessions in Church service and administration as presented in our Priesthood Leadership manual. We meet as a leadeship group each week to discuss the needs of the members of our group and other members of our Ward that may be in need of help. I am also called to be a Home Teacher and have 4 families to visit and teach in their homes on a monthly basis. This is a special calling and comes through inspiration directly from our saviour who loves each and every one of his children. This is proof that our God is a personal God and knows each of us, and loves us individually, enough to establish a Church where members are assigned individually to look after and take care of each member who will permit this service to be rendered. In my time as a member I have served many families in this way, visiting, teaching, praying, and helping sometimes when needs are shared and help requested. I have established great friendships and understand the powerful blessings our Heavenly Father has for us when we are in service to his children. Answering the call to help those in need is a special responsibility and blessing for faithful members of our Church. Those who answer the call often perform service projects which assist those in need during difficult times. To have the time, means and ability to answer these service calls is proof that I am richly blessed by my Heavenly Father. As we help each other in these ways, there is a great feeling of peace and or purpose in my life - something beyond a selfish existence that I find that I am naturally drawn towards. These are teachings of our Church, they are practical and purposeful and how I strive to live a life of Faith in action.
