Hi I'm Melissa (aka Missy)

I'm a wife, mother, coach, athlete, room mom, caregiver, oregon duck, traveler, dreamer, Washington native and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've been married to a wonderful, gentle giant for almost 20 years. We adopted two beautiful girls at birth. I am truly blessed to be there mother. I love coaching them both in various sports & helping in their classrooms. I majored in Business Mgmt. & Marketing in college & played basketball. I have been an avid Oregon Duck fan ever since! I love any sport with a ball (soccer, basketball, volleyball, golf, etc.)! I also run marathons, but not because I love them, but I love the challenge and the journey. I admire & love: my parents & 4 siblings, my own family, dogs, musical talent, hiking, selflessness, people who can cook & Christ's atoning sacrifice for me personally. I try to live by the Golden Rule- "Do unto others as you'd have done unto you." I'm grateful for my health & don't take it for granted as I've seen my husband, endure through much, over the years. I hope for a cure for Diabetes someday. I've seen the trials that it can cause (kidney failure, dialysis, transplant, amputations, etc.) & I'm always amazed at the patience of my husband. I love diversity & have many non-member friends whom I love and admire. I love to find the commonalities between us instead of dwelling on our differences. I believe in the goodness of mankind & fighting for truth and righteousness. I don't like: to cook, the Huskies:), sleep deprivation, cancer or losing loved ones. However, I'm grateful for the plan of Happiness that allows us to see & be with loved ones again.

Why I am a Mormon

I became converted to Mormonism during my youth. Although I was born into the church, I came to believe on my own, when I was a teenager, questioning its teachings, that it was true. I've put its teachings & principles to the test personally & have found no greater happiness than when I'm living what I've been taught. I firmly believe in a loving Heavenly Father & Mother. "Who am I & What is my purpose here?" are questions that I can firmly answer without a shadow of doubt. I believe that we all have a divine purpose on earth & that we are all sons and daughers of God. I find it impossible to believe that this loving Father in Heaven would discontinue his communication with us once the Bible was finished. "What parent would ever do that to their children?" I would never cut off my children & stop communicating with them. Thus, I believe in "The Book of Mormon-Another Testament of Jesus Christ" & I know I am important enough to God that he will continue to speak to me through modern day prophets (just like he did in the days of Moses, Abraham & Jacob). Although I've struggled at times, I've read the Book of Mormon & found that it's teachings are undeniably true. If the Book of Mormon is true, then Joseph Smith must've been a true prophet of God. I've followed our modern day prophets guidance & counsel for almost 40 years, & never been led astray. He is the mouthpiece of God. He can prophesy & lead me to safer ground before the crevaces in the world can swallow me up. Ultimately, I've experienced miracles in my life that are inexplicable. I've been extremely sick & healed, unable to conceive & blessed with motherhood, distraught over husbands health issues, yet strengthened & comforted by God's love, ran marathons & recovered, saddened by loss of loved ones & given hope for the future - all proof that God lives, loves me personally & still hears & answers my prayers. I look forward to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, my personal Savior & Redeemer.

How I live my faith

I love to serve in my community & church congregation. In my community I help: 1) with Art, Classroom events, PE fitness testing, & Fundraising at our local school, 2) coached Girls Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball & Softball over the years, & 3) assist Girl Scout leaders on campouts & retreats. In our church congregation I am in the Organizational Presidency that oversees the welfare of our female members and their families. Some of my favorite places to serve in our church is with the youth or elementary age children. I love working with kids and trying to make a difference in their lives. I work & play hard during the week, but as I've always said, "I love Sundays because they are the one day that I can rest and spend time worshipping God & be with my family". It's a wonderful day for reflection on life & helps me to keep perspective when life becomes overwhelming. I can rededicate my efforts to serving my God & living the gospel on a daily basis. I keep the Code of Health which is the "Word of Wisdom" (meaning I don't drink alcohol or coffee, smoke, or use any substances) that may be or become addictive. My body is free from slavery. I love that! I try to serve others by doing kind acts of service on a daily basis. I try to seek out opportunities to serve others & remain mindful of others who may be in need of service at different times. I believe actions speak much louder than words & therefore try to lead by example in all that I do. With so many health issues facing my husband & our family, I have also been on the receiving end of service many times over the past few years. I know our Heavenly Father wants us to serve others because "When we are in the service of our fellow man we are also in the service of our God." Yet, I also have felt God's love for me stronger than ever when my church & community friends and extended family have offered to help out during weighty times. Help with kids & meals brought in at times have been much appreciated.
