Hi I'm Diane Hughes

I grew up in Colorado and Idaho. I now live in Washington. I am a wife and mom and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I have been married for 18 years and I LOVE it. I have three great children who make me laugh and keep me busy. I enjoy spending time with the kids, and singing in the car with my 16 year old daughter. I graduated from Ricks College, now BYU-I, where I met my husband. I love to learn. I learned to play the piano when I was 28. I love to read. I just learned to quilt and can't find enough time to really experiment with it. I have traveled some, and hope to do more with my husband. The beach is my favorite place to go. I feel the most relaxed and at peace there. Whenever I feel stressed I want a little beach therapy. I would love to stay home and not work, but I can't, so I have a job that lets me have vacations with the kids and work only a few hours a day. I am an assistant kitchen cook at an elementary school and I really enjoy it. I am learning to enjoy the journey during all parts of my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of the church for 22 years. When I was a teenager I really was searching for answers of who I was and what purpose my life had. I had some amazing friends in High School who helped me understand about the gospel of Jesus Christ. I was drawn to focus the church puts on families. My home life was good, but my parents struggled. I wanted my future family to always know that they were loved and have a good relationship with my children. When I met with the missionaries, I knew almost immediately that I would become a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There was something about the members that made me feel happy. Everything that I was taught rang true to my soul. It was like I had heard these concepts before and I had come home. The decision to join the church was easy, knowing that I would be doing so on my own was not. My family did not approve of my decision. We have come a long way and they respect my choices. Now 20+ years later, a family of three children and a loving husband, I am humbled at the magnitude that my Heavenly Father loves me. I have been truely blessed for joining this church. I know that I am a daughter of God, who loves me beyond any comprehension that I have. I know that my family is an eternal family, that our lives here will not end, but will continue on when we die. Knowing that Jesus Christ is my brother and that he made sacrifices, not only for the world, but for me as an individual, has increased my desire to be a good person.

How I live my faith

I live my faith everyday by trying to follow the example of Jesus Christ. I have served as a leader in the children's organization, in the women's organization, and currently with the Young Women in our church. I teach the 12 and 13 year old girls. I love these young women, because they teach me so much about faith. I have helped organize and run our Girl's Camp. This is a week long camp for the young women ages 12-17. They have spiritual classes, craft classes, hikes, learn how to start fires without matches, they learn so much about themselves and their Savior Jesus Christ. I have to say that going to camp with the Young Women is one of the funnest things I have done. They are amazing girls, who know who they are and are a great example to me. I have helped at my children's school in the PTA. I have run and organized the Book Fairs. I enjoy working with other people, who teach me so much.
