Hi I'm Bryant

I am a husband and father, a band director, a doctoral student, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love teaching and I love music, so it's no surprise that I knew when I was in 7th grade that I would become a band teacher. I have had great opportunities to work with young people, perform great music in great places, and grow personally through this profession. Along with my music teaching I love to write songs on the acoustic guitar, I've been known to sing with/write for a popular comedy acapella group, and I often enjoy listening to my favorite band: Chicago. Aside from music my time is given to my wife and four young kids. They fill my life with so much joy. My wife is my best friend and we love doing things together, including hiking, baking, going on dates, talking, and even reading out loud (made reading the Harry Potter series even more entertaining). I've loved watching my kids learn to walk and talk, read and write, create and play. It's so much fun to simply be around them. We're a busy family, but every moment is worth it. I also love being around good people. I have many friends with whom I enjoy interacting be it at work, church, school, or a host of other places. I enjoy a good laugh, spending a long time or just a quick chance to catch up, but it's great to be with them.

Why I am a Mormon

I feel that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the place where men and women can find all the answers to life. It is where the power and authority of God is. I love knowing that I can grow close to my Father in Heaven and one day live with Him because of the truths that are in the church. I have read the Book of Mormon, prayed to know if it is true, and felt the spirit confirm to me that it is the word of God. I have studied the life of Joseph Smith, the man called to bring the Lord's church back to the earth, and I have felt the spirit whisper that he was a prophet of God. I have listened to modern prophets and apostles testify of Jesus Christ and I am certain that those men are called of God, and that Jesus Christ is the savior of the world. I love reading the Bible, especially the Gospels, and feel a closeness with the Lord as I do so. I love knowing that our Heavenly Father has made a way for my family to be together forever and that motivates me to be my best every day. I love how the church teaches that we should love and serve one another and I am happy when I find any opportunity to serve my fellow men. Why am I a Mormon? Because the spirit whispers to me that the church is true, and because I am happy as I live my religion.

How I live my faith

When I am at church my wife and I teach the 9 year old class. These kids are great! We love to see them expanding their knowledge of the gospel and coming to know Jesus Christ better. I try to teach the kids to love the savior and live their faith everywhere they go. I also am in charge of caring for three families in our congregation. It is a privilege to care for these great people, and I appreciate them letting me come to their home and help them when they are in need. When I am away from church I have many opportunities to live my faith. I try to keep the standards of the church fully by using good language, abstaining from substances or activities that would hurt my body or be offensive, and finding opportunities to serve those around me. I also like to talk with people about the church and its beliefs. For example, I have a friend who lost her grandfather recently. We talked for a few moments and I simply told her of my faith that she will see her grandfather again because of the gospel plan. Knowing that I have truths that can help people in their lives encourages me to share it with others.

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

Life does have specific purposes. God, our Heavenly Father, loves us and wants us to be happy and live the kind of life he lives. A perfect life. To reach the goals He has for us he sent us to Earth to 1) receive a physical body, that we can learn to control and use to bless others. 2) We were given the ability to choose right and wrong, and learn the opportunities and consequences of these choices. 3) We were sent here to gain experience to help us grow more like our Heavenly Father. 4) We were sent to become members of families that have eternal potential, and have joy within those families. Knowing these things give me a lot of direction in my life. Regardless of whether things are going well or not I have been able to look at how the experience fits in the plan God has for me. Then I can move forward knowing that God is helping me become my best, and all things will give me experience and will be for my good. Show more Show less

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

I believe that marriages and family members can be together forever. Through the authority found in the temples of the church I have been sealed to my wife, and also my children, and know that if I follow the savior and keep the commandments then I will be with them forever. That is a great comfort and joy to me. It encourages me to be my best as a husband and father, after all, I want my wife and kids to want to be with me in eternity. I have found that knowing that families can be together forever has brought great direction, compassion, love, and happiness in my home. I'm grateful that we can be together forever. I love my family. Show more Show less
