Hi I'm Amanda Mckay!

I'm a musician studying at Northern Arizona University, a future missionary, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a junior music education major at NAU with a vocal emphasis, and I also love playing viola! Learning and getting to know more about people are my favorite hobbies. I have two little sisters and they are the WORLD to me. I suffer from PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), which makes life a little more interesting, but it's still SO beautiful! I get a little better every day and am blessed with good friends and family in my corner, helping me through it-- what more could I want?

Why I am a Mormon

I love this church. It is hands down the best part of my life. For a period of time, when my PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) was really severe, I started doubting the church and if God was really there. I questioned why we had to follow specific rules or spend time doing service to others if this life was all we had-- I mean, shouldn't we make the most of it? After a while though, I came back to myself. I was never happy when I was obsessing over the "why"s of the rules and such. I was SO happy, though, when I did what Christ asked us to do-- love one another and keep His commandments. I am really grateful for the church because it is truly God's church, and helps me to become a better individual.

How I live my faith

In the LDS church, everyone in the congregation gets a "calling" (or job) in order to help the ward function. We don't pay most of our leaders, so it's all volunteer! :) My calling is a Ward Missionary-- which basically just means that I help do service projects and proselyting with the full-time missionaries (young men and women who leave their lives for 1.5-2 years to share the word of God with people all over the world). Soon I will be a full time missionary myself, in South Carolina! I love reading my scriptures, praying, finding ways to help other people and just generally looking for ways to come closer to Christ! :)
