Hi I'm Jerry

I grew up in Wyoming. I raised my family near Seattle. I'm a husband, father, grandpa, and great-grandpa. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the luckiest man alive. I have a devoted eternal companion, Margo. We were married and sealed as an eternal family in the Cardston, Alberta, Canada temple in 1959. Margo and I have 8 wonderful children that we've raised in Federal Way, WA. I respect and love each child and grandchild unconditionally and support them in their choices of life activities. I am a college graduate of BYU and Accounting is my academic love. I am currently active in pickleball and raquetball. In my younger years I played basketball, fast and slow pitch softball, and volleyball. I retired from the USAF after 34 years of service. I have two brothers who are dedicated husbands, fathers, grandfathers, and faithful members of the Church. We still live in the same house where we raised our family in Washington.

Why I am a Mormon

My mother was raised Mormon and therefore I was baptized into the church when I was 10 years old. My mother's maiden name is Shumway, and her ancestors have long been associated with Church history since the 1830s. My youth was spent uneventfully--with the exception of attending 36 different elementary school in grades 1-6. I worked in many jobs throughout my life, but my best employment is being husband, father, and faithful priesthood holder. My love of work has brought me important life experiences which helped me focus on the importance of personal responsibilities. The Church has always helped me raise my children. I have never had to worry about gangs or cliques. The Church youth programs from grade school through teenage years blessed all of my children with dedicated leaders and instructors. Their dedication to my children has been oustanding! I know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I know that Jesus, through the direction of the Father, created the earth and all that exists upon it. I know that Joseph Smith was and is a Prophet of God. We currently have a Prophet, Thomas S. Monson, who is directed by Jesus Christ and receives inspiration for us in our current lives. I have served two missions since my 60th birthday and loved every minute of it.

How I live my faith

I currently serve as a ward missionary. In addition, I am a volunteer Temple ordinance worker at the Seattle temple. Both of these areas bring happiness and satisfaction to my life. I will continue to serve for the time I have left. When I am given an opportunity, I help my neighbors and deliver service to those I see in need. I have worked as a teacher of all ages from children to adults, including many leadership positions in bishoprics, ward mission leader, ward clerk, young men leader, stake auditor, high priest group leader, and home teacher. I've served in my community by coaching youth baseball, softball, soccer, basketball, and volleyball teams comprised of members and non-members of the Church.
