Hi I'm Sam

I am in graduate school and study young adult literature. I am an editor and writer. I am a fan of manga and anime. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a graduate student finishing a master's degree in English. I'm currently writing a thesis about identity development in young adult fantasy literature. After graduation, I plan to become an editor and I am currently applying for jobs in both commercial and academic editing. In my free time I write fiction myself and I also love to read, exercise, listen to music, learn new things, and watch movies, especially foreign movies and anime. I absolutely love sushi and other Japanese dishes.

Why I am a Mormon

At some points in my life, my testimony was not very strong, and during one of my roughest times about all I knew was that God existed. But I never let go of that little piece of faith, and a few years ago, I decided that I wanted to draw closer to God and stop wandering through life on my own. As I have come closer to my Heavenly Father I have learned to better recognize His influence in my life and understand that he is aware of me and has a plan for me. It seems that I need constant reminders of this fact, however, and I am grateful that whenever I seem to be struggling the most, I will go to church the next Sunday and hear in the talks, lessons, and testimonies presented the answers to whatever questions have been weighing on me. Always I am reminded that Heavenly Father and Jesus are mindful of my struggles and desires and that I only need to turn to them in prayer and sincere scripture study to received the support and guidance I need each day.

How I live my faith

I try to live as an "example of the believers" (1 Timothy 4:12) and make sure that I am an example of Christ in my words and actions. I look out for my family and friends and try to keep a mind open to service and make sure the needs of others are met--and, that they feel the love of Christ in their lives. I work to read my scriptures and pray daily to keep the Spirit close to me and try to help others feel the promptings and insight available from the Spirit as I teach Sunday school lessons. While I am far from perfect, I know that each day is another chance to improve ourselves, to learn more about the gospel of Jesus Christ and how to apply it more deeply to my life.
