Hi I'm Darlene

I'm a Mormon. I'm really not very interesting, but my claim to fame is I'm me and I love life.

About Me

I guess I could be called a "jackess" (that's with an e not an a) of all trades and master of none. I'm a writer of personalized childrens stories, love to scrapbook, and do a lot of genealogy. I love to find stories and other information about my ancestors. . . . it helps me to get to know them. I find out what they were like and where my little idiosyncrasies come from; it helps me to understand myself better. I love reading historical fiction and fantasy (loved Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings). When I was younger I owned my own drive-in restaurant - that was a lot of fun, but a lot of work. I've had a lot of experiences in this life and hope to have a lot more.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized in 1974. However, I was not converted until later. My first calling was as a teacher and I was so excited because I'd always wanted to be a teacher. Things went well then I had to go back to work. At first I worked close to home then I chose to take a better job, which was a 50+ mile drive twice a day, plus the fact that I worked long hours. Suddenly it seemed that my days were so full there was no time for anything but work inside and outside the home and church callings, I became negligent about reading the scriptures and even praying. Gradually church became a burden to me so I stopped going. With the loss of church fellowshipping and not having the spirit with me I became subject to outside influences. One thing led to another and I became involved in theater and I found out how weak of character I was. I started doing things that "everyone else" was doing and suddenly the tools of the devil didn’t look so bad to me anymore. It was about ten years before I woke up and realized what had happened to me. Then I was ashamed to go back to church, I felt I had blown it. Nevertheless, I decided to change my life around; I quit the theater, stopped seeing my actor friends, stopped my social drinking and I began to pray again. A short time later I was told I had cancer. I got really scared for the first time in my life. That night I prayed as I had never prayed before and by the next morning darkness had turned to light. It was then I realized that my Heavenly Father still loved me and was watching over me; I began going to church again and doing the things My Father in Heaven commands of His children. Since that time I’ve lost my parents, my daughter and a grandson, but I’ve been able to fight through the grief and sorrow because Jesus Christ walks with me, God still loves me, and the Holy Ghost comforts me. The Church has brought me the happiness I enjoy today.

How I live my faith

I strive each day to become a better person. I'm so excited to be part of the presidency in the childrens Sunday School. The children are such a joy and their spirits just glow. I have the opportunity to write a newsletter for them once a month and to participate in the celebration of their birthdays and other special events in their lives. I also love visiting teaching because I get to spend a little time each month with the ladies that are assigned to me, to get to know them, to share their happy news and accomplishments, and to learn to love them as Heavenly Father loves each one of us. By reading the scriptures each day and praying I am learning to walk the path of spirituality and finding out what it is to be righteous.
