Hi I'm david jones

I'm a Mormon. I've been a member for 30 years. I was a convert to the church in 1988 from the Catholic church.

About Me

I'm 54 years old, and a member for 30 of them. I have been married to my beautiful wife for nearly 29 years and we have 5 children - two boys, three girls - 27, 25, 23, 20 and 16. I worked in engineering for 26 years since graduating with a BA hons degree in Design. Pretty much disliked all of my years in engineering. I'm really no engineer. Since the end of 2011 when I was made redundant, I trained part time to be a therapeutic counsellor ! I qualified at the end of 2017, and am now trying to start my own practice. I am also a musician - I have played the piano since the age of 7, and also have played bass in bands for many years, although since being called as Bishop and now as a counsellor in the Stake Presidency, I find I do not have the time to play any more, and my basses have been gathering dust !

Why I am a Mormon

It was through my music that I met up with the church. The band I was playing in lost our keyboard player, and the guy we recruited was not only the best keyboard player I had ever worked with - he was also a Mormon !! - and so it began ! I was impressed with his standards, and the way he lived his life. I was also very impressed with the many young people I met in the church. I had been a practising Catholic for my whole life, but found many aspects of the church puzzling and confusing. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints I found provided many of the answers that had been looking for. After too many years waiting for absolute proof, I was baptised and confirmed a member of the church on 10 April 1988 by my two best friends, one of whom was my friend who had joined the band. It has been a wonderful journey that continues every day - I have never regretted for a second my decision to become a member. The spirit testified to me that the Church was true ! The Gospel teaches us where we came from, why we are here, and where we will go after this life. These are questions I found were never fully answered before joining the church. I now know that I came to this earth to be tested, and if I am faithful and endure to the end - I can live with my family for eternity. Something I desire more than anything.

How I live my faith

I have served in many callings in the church over the years - serving the youth, and the adults in the church in various capacities. All the callings we hold are but for a time, we are eventually released to serve elsewhere. The only calling from which we will not be released is those we hold in our families - as Father and Mother- husband and wife. It's important we have balance in our lives to be able to fulfil all our callings - especially those from which we won't be released. This is the great challenge. I served as Bishop of the Caerphilly Ward in South Wales for 6 years. It was an honour and a privilege to serve in this calling. The Caerphilly Ward is a wonderful ward, blessed with many great families, members and leaders. These faithful members make the job of Bishop so much easier. I have now served as a Counsellor to two Stake Presidents in the Cardiff Stake for the last 6 years. A very different calling. The Stake President presides over all the wards in the Stake (area). I miss the many opportunities to meet with the ward members, but am so grateful to be now serving all the Saints in the Stake.
