Hi I'm Kurt Strein

I am a husband, father, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a Mormon and a husband and a father. My wife and I have 5 children. The oldest at a University doing research on organic solar cells, the next is working for Microsoft, the middle one is working on getting a masters in library science, the 4th is working on a BS in nursing, the youngest is in 11th grade and wanting to follow his brother in computer science. I current job is working at a sewage treatment plant in Colorado. The plant serves Rocky Mountain National Park so it is very beautiful place to work. Getting to my car to go or leave work I have had to wait for the Elk to move away from the front door. My car has been charged by 5 big horn rams (I stopped and the five rams veered off at the last few feet). Also, I have had a mountain lion look down on me in my car licking its chops. By the way I do enjoy making sewage into clean water again. As a hobby I like to give technical presentations about sewer plant operation. These include • Digital PID Control using a Sewage Lift Station as an Example • Air Moving Equipment/Systems and Associated Operating Costs • Dynamic Sludge Age

Why I am a Mormon

The Elders tracked into me as I was walking home from school. I wondered what they could teach me seeing I had years of Sunday School, and I had read the bible several times. The first part of the Joseph Smith Story made sense to me. A boy was confused about all the different churches. The hard part was Joseph Smith sees Heavenly Father and Jesus who talk to him. However, I knew prophets would be given to men again. That is in the Book of Revelation. A question I had asked myself while I was a teenager was “If I had lived in Jesus’ time would I have accepted or rejected Jesus?” Therefore, would I recognize God’s prophets or would I reject them. I also knew that there were going to be many false prophets. The question I had was how to tell the difference. I thought any new prophet sent by God would do things like Moses did to prove to the Children of Israel that he was the prophet. What we got was the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is better because it is not a onetime event. I then got a track titled “The Plan of Salvation. It was very good because it used the Bible for every point. The Plan of Salvation was well grounded in the Bible and it harmonized the Bible. It made God a very merciful God with providing many ways for people to be saved in the kingdom of Heaven. This included: Infants who died People who lived and never heard about Jesus. I thought about it and realized if I only knew if President Kimball (the president of the church at the time) was the living prophet then everything else would be true. I finally got down on my knees and prayed. I prayed thinking the church was not true. Darkness and unhappiness was in this line of thinking but when I asked if President Kimball was God’s prophet it was a Heavenly yes. There was peace and happiness. Not the answer I expected but President Kimball was God’s prophet. The answer to that prayer was so powerful that I remember the room, the bed, and where I was when I got it.

How I live my faith

Studying the scriptures and praying daily both personally and as a family. Also once a week we hold “Family Home Evening”. The lessons are good but I like the excuse to make a nice desert for a treat. I also help my kids (while in High school) get up and have a scripture class at 6:00 am at a local church building. As a neighbor I get my block together once per year for a block party and most of the neighbors come. I have always brought the homemade ice cream. Finally, at all times I try to have a prayer in my heart so I can set the example of kind, loving person who follow the teachings of the Savior, Jesus Christ.
