Hi I'm Sherilyn

I grew up in the D.C. area. I teach college writing. I love sports. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up with four brothers and no sisters, so I learned to love sports at a young age. I love to read, so when I entered college, I tentatively declared myself as an English major. However, I soon realized that my passion for history was stronger and I eventually changed to history teaching. Since I graduated, I have taught college writing classes and have LOVED helping my students learn how to write! I enjoy helping others and volunteered in an orphanage for four weeks last year. I hope to return sometime soon!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that the true church of Jesus Christ was restored to the earth through the prophet Joseph Smith. I've learned that through praying to our Heavenly Father and asking Him to help me to know which way to go, i.e. to direct me the same way that He's directed people through all ages. And He has answered me.

How I live my faith

If Christ were here, He would spend time serving others. I try to do the same, though I'm far from perfect at it. I spent four weeks volunteering in an orphanage in eastern Europe last year. However, I've learned that it's not only the big things that make a difference. Sometimes it's as simple as calling a friend and letting her know that you've been thinking about her. Learning to love and serve others has been one of the best and most fulfilling ways that I try to live my faith.
