Hi I'm John

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I’m a grandfather of a two year old girl, a father of a beautiful daughter and the husband of a wonderful woman. They provide much joy in my life. I am a retired railroad employee; dabble at golf and workout on my treadmill and Bowflex a few times each week. Enjoy working on my computer & smartphone. Love listening to good music especially hymns and southern gospel, country and western, blue grass and classical. Enjoy listening to talk radio and consider myself right of center on the political scale. My name is John and I am a Mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

My mother was a faithful member of my church and because of her I was baptized when I turned eight years of age. I attended church until I left home for college and then gradually stopped going to church altogether for a period of about twelve years. In that time period I married my wife and she became pregnant with our daughter. Just prior to our daughter’s birth, for reasons still not fully understood by me, I felt a strong need to read my Book of Mormon, which had been on a bookshelf in our home collecting dust for many years. I was not an avid reader; and so by acting on this impression I was making a big time commitment. I began reading the Book of Mormon; and almost immediately it began to touch me in very profound ways. I came to know without any doubt that God does live and that He loves me deeply; and I learned that Jesus Christ atoned for my sins. I cannot begin to express the feelings of love and gratitude I had then and have now for my Father in Heaven and for my Savior, Jesus Christ. We are taught in scripture that God’s love is the most desirable above all things, and the most joyous to the soul. I can tell you that that statement is true because I have felt their love and it has changed my life. I continued to read the scriptures, including the Holy Bible and other religious books. Because of the love I felt I wanted to repent and change my life; and I knew that would require changing those things in my life that were not in keeping with the commandments of God. It was like I had been away on a long difficult journey to a far country and was now returning home. My Father in Heaven’s love was the catalyst that I needed to keep me going. I started attending church and the members of His church treated with such love and kindness and understanding that I really felt that I was at home. His church has been a great blessing in my life. I would be lost without it. I felt that way thirty-three years ago and I still feel that way today.

How I live my faith

Along with my wife, I’m currently serving a mission at the Bishops Storehouse/Home Storage Center. Enjoy very much helping both members of my church and those who are not members build up their food storage supplies. I have had many assignments or callings in the church and have enjoyed each of them greatly. I’ve had administrative assignments, clerical assignments and some teaching assignments. . Each came with its challenges; and each caused me to grow as an individual, husband and father. Each has brought me closer to my Father in Heaven and His Son, Jesus Christ.
