Hi I'm Rita

I'm a Mormon. and I’m a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. My husband was born into the Church.

About Me

My conversion did not come easy. There were word of wisdom issues I had to face. It was a faithful Home Teacher who helped me quit smoking. When he and his companion came to a Home Teaching appointment, he said that he thought he would change the assigned lesson, but then had a prompting that he should give that lesson he was supposed to give. It was on the Word of Wisdom. We talked about it and prayed and decided we would all fast the following Tuesday to see if there was a way for me to quit smoking. We met Tuesday evening to see if any of us had found a way. We all agreed that I was just supposed to quit. It took many Priesthood blessings and a very patient husband and more patient children to help me get through that challenge. But I did quit smoking. Freedom from addiction to cigarettes was the first blessing and lesson that came from that experience. Another lesson learned was that we have to obey the commandment and then we will see the blessings. Sometimes you just have to obey without expectation. There was no way for me to gain further knowledge or progress in the gospel while I was still smoking. The blessings I have received by obeying the Word of Wisdom are too great to number.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know the Church is true. Reading the Book of Mormon has led me to know with uncertainty that Jesus is the Christ, that He is the resurrected Lord and that He paid the price (through the Atonement) for my sins and the sins of the world so we may return to our Heavenly Father. The Plan of Salvation is more clearly defined in the Book of Mormon than it is in the Old and New Testaments. I have made many eternal friends because of my membership in the Church. They have enriched my life and I look forward the eternities with my eternal companion, my family and friends.

How I live my faith

During these stressful times, I find it helpful to start my day studying the scriptures. I read the scriptures or articles in a Church magazine every morning, have my prayers and then start my day. It helps me have the spirit with me during the day. The Conference issues have wonderful messages and I always find messages in them that are pertinent to my life. During Sacrament Meeting, I have found it helpful to take notes during the meeting and then type them up and save my notes in the computer. It makes me understand how spiritual our Sacrament Meetings really are. The speakers seek the spirit in preparing their talks and they pour out their hearts through their messages. Partaking of the Sacrament is a sacred ordinance and it helps me focus on the Savior during the meeting and during the week.
