Hi I'm Jean Nahomni Mani, Dakota

I'm a Mormon, from Dakota Sioux tribe. I live in Mesa Arizona and attend the Papago Ward, the oldest Lamanite ward in the church.

About Me

I love to read the scriptures. When I want to feel happy or encouraged, I pick up the Book of Mormon. I enjoy sewing, I make Native cloth dolls. I go to powwows which are Native American social gatherings. Movies are fun, I like family themed movies. I am the only person who is LDS in my family, but they have become accustomed to my life style of no alcohol.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the church because I knew in my heart is was the right thing to do. My sister went on the Indian Placement program, and she came back a different person. A much happier and kinder person who enjoyed life. Plus she had new luggage. I had gone to an Indian Boarding School where is was not the best environment. There was no nuturing what so ever. But I was so impressed by the positive changes in my sister, I too joined the church and went on the placement program. My foster family in Idaho were very loving and a great example of what a loving family would be like if you lived the goespel. It was the best thing that happened to me.

How I live my faith

Living my faith is easy because when you live the commandments, you have freedom to do what you want. Some people find it hard to attend church every Sunday. But every time I attend Church, I feel inspired and happy.
