Hi I'm Scot

I have a passion for living and promoting a balanced, fulfilling, and effective life. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am married to a beautiful and good woman and blessed to be the father of four remarkable children and five wonderful grandchildren. Although I am a CPA and Chief Financial Officer, I am not your typical mild-mannered bean counter. When not working, I try to live life to it's fullest by flying powered parachutes, wakesurfing, and bowfishing. In the past I have climbed Mount Rainier, competed in sprint triathlons, sky-dived, bowhunted elk, fished remote Alaska, and snorkled the blue waters of Bermuda and Hawaii. I am a champion of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

Why I am a Mormon

My direct ancestry includes pioneers and even the third President of the Church. So you could say I was born and bred to be a Mormon. I grew up in a large, very active family and my life has been centered around the Church and its teachings as long as I can remember. But that didn't lessen the need for me to gain my own personal testimony of the truth. While preparing to serve a two-year mission to Japan at age 19, I studied the Book of Mormon and received a personal witness that it is the Word of God and contains the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. While teaching the Japanese people I found out for myself that God and His Son actually appeared to Joseph Smith and restored the Gospel in preparation for the Second Coming of the Savior. Since my mission I have served in a variety of Church positions including a Bishop over a congregation of more than 400 members. I have been intimately involved as Christ's atonement has enabled people to overcome transgression, addiction, heartache, and despair. I know the Gosepl changes lives. Recently I have examined other religions and noted that, while most include wonderful teachings, only the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints contains both the fullness and completeness of the principles and Church established by the Savior Himself. Everything about the Church seems right to me - especially the teachings regarding marriage and family. I have even begun to seriously study the intricacies and mysteries of the cosmos and can easily reconcile the Church's doctrine with much scientific theory. I testify that the Mormon Church is true and Jesus Christ's Church once again restored on the earth.

How I live my faith

On a personal level I strive to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. Each day I study these teachings and pray. I also pay tithing and follow the Lord's law of health by abstaining from tobacco, alcohol, and drugs. I attend Church meetings every Sunday and regularly participate in sacred ordinances performed in the Church's holy temples. This pattern of living has provided much joy, peace, contentment and, hopefully, a good example to my children and grandchildren. Like most Mormons, I serve in a Church calling or assignment - currently a gospel doctrine teacher for an adult Sunday School class. I am also assigned to watch over, visit, teach, and assist three families from our congregation. Finally, I ocassionally participate in special projects that help the community and its citizens. All in all, living the Gospel involves service to others which is the source of all lasting joy and purpose in life.
