Hi I'm Alexander

I'm from Normal... Normal, Illinois. I play chess, read, launch rockets, and look at the stars through my telescope. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the oldest of 6. I have 4 younger brothers and a younger sister. I love my family and do my best to be a great example to them. I like to do a little bit of everything. In high school, I was in speech, debate, Math club, tennis, the percussion in band, concert and marching, and chess club. With any free time after that I launch rockets, fly kites, read, play video games and the piano. Now that I am seeking a PhD in Math at the University of Michigan, I have narrowed down my activities keeping chess and starting other activities like climate research for the university. With all this I still find time for a social life using creative date ideas as astronomy shows, sailing aluminum boats in rivers, cooking together and hiking mountains. I love such events as concerts, plays, the circus and musicals. There is so much opportunities and things to do and enjoy trying all of them.

Why I am a Mormon

The unity of my family. Being the oldest of 6 is hard. Through the teachings of Jesus Christ, we all love being together. My childhood memories are of reading the scriptures as a family, attending church together, eating dinner together, and Family Home Evening (once a week where my family would sing a hymn, learn about Jesus Christ, play a game and eat dessert). Reading the Book of Mormon is a daily habit for me. I know that the book is true. Studying from the scriptures is in enjoyment for my scholarly mind. As I read the book again and again I find more insights for my life that by applying make me a better person. Being from Illinois, I was a minority as a Mormon in my schools. The Lord standards have been a guide for me in my life. Having that base really helped me to have good friend inside and outside the church that made me my best person. I have the confidence I need to yes to good things and no to things that are not right despite the pressures that exist in todays world. I have found joy and happiness in being a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I am going to college. I work hard at classes and live the standards of the church even when there is pressure not too. From 2010-2012, I served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I am enjoying talking to others about how the teaching of Jesus Christ can make all the difference in life. The oportunity that I have to to serve Christ has changed my life. I enjoy leading music at church. Even know I am not the best singer, I make up what I am missing in talent in enthusiasm and spirit. At church, we sing hymns during the meeting. Growing up playing piano, I have learned how to play a couple of them and even have played a few occasions during church. I enjoy sing hymns; singing always lifts my spirits when I am stressed and feeling overwhelmed. One part of the church is that we get to visit a couple members every month. Before my mission, this visits are a blessing to me and them. We teach and learn together the doctrines of the gospel. Serving each other on a one on one setting made putting in practices of Jesus Christ so real in my life. I find joys in serving in the community. I love to play chess and I share this joy with others. When I was in high school I would go to the local Elementary school to teach the kids there. Serving in the community and doing something I love is a double bonus. I have found that being a mormon is more than going to a church once a week. It is a lifestyle that brings fulfillment and happiness.
