Hi I'm Dan

I'm a husband, a father, and a student of life. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a proud Dad of two great boys, and lucky to be married to an amazing lady. Lucky, that is, because I am a nerd. My college degree says pre-med, but I've been into computers in some form or another since I was pretty little, and that turned out to be a sufficiently challenging and in-demand path for me to make a career out of it. I enjoy reading nonfiction that challenges my assumptions, or describes the leading edge of technology, particuarly in areas such as quantum physics, cosmology, and the like. Outside of work, I pretty well spend my time with my wife and kids, trying to make sure I don't miss out on any of the fleeting time we have together.

Why I am a Mormon

The Church gives me solid footing for the purpose of this life, and confidence in what comes next. I've certainly been through some difficult times, but I've come to learn that there's something very real and very personal about Jesus Christ's sacrifice for us, and its power to heal and cleanse us. I struggle with nagging feelings that nothing is ever "good enough," and the gospel of Jesus Christ helps me to understand that imperfection is a crucial part of this life. I know that the Church provides the gospel of Jesus Christ exactly as He intends it to be taught, but that making anything useful out of that is ultimately up to me. Not to do more, or to constantly live in despair or fear for all the things I can't be or do, but to look in gratitude to a Savior who willingly paid the price of all my deficiencies. He only asks that I stop fighting so hard to make it all alone, and instead allow Him to come and fill the wide gap between me and perfection. I know that this is the real defintion of perfection in this life - accepting His sacrifice to fill the void.

How I live my faith

I attend Church on Sunday, and strive to live in accordance with my beliefs constantly. I look for chances to share bits of what I know with my friends and folks I meet. I teach singing and gospel lessons to the 1-2 year olds at Church, which reminds me that most everything that's of lasting importance is contained in lessons we can learn as a little child.
