Hi I'm Brett

I'm a pretty average guy. Life is great! I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a average husband. I'm a present father. I am a struggling provider, which requires most of my time, for now. I look forward to the days when I can do more of what I want, when I want in this life. Those days will include serving others, doing more to lift the burdens of my wife, and spending more time with my kids and some day grandkids. I will hope to enjoy some of the wonders of this world, too, like mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing, camping, gardening, traveling, coaching wrestling, reading, learning new things or just sitting on a blanket listening to my wife. I am an ordinary man with an ordinary life - but life is really good and I feel very blessed.

Why I am a Mormon

The Gospel of Jesus Christ provides me vision of the future and where my decisions will lead me. While I try to "be a good person," there is more to life than a mixture of opposing good and bad choices and picking the one that is "good." I know there is only one way to return to the presence of my Heavenly Father and that is by following Jesus Christ and His chosen prophets. There are many good things in this world, but holding to good things or choosing the better of two options has not the power to save my soul. The Church of Jesus Christ contains the authority of God to perform the necessary ordinances (or rites) that He requires to return to be with him after this life has passed. And only in His church have I found answers to the important questions of life. I have felt the Holy Ghost witness to me of the truth that Joseph Smith was a prophet, called of God and ordained by heavenly messengers to restore Christ's church, as He had established it when He walked the earth. My life has been without major challenges or deep obstacles to overcome, frankly it's been very standard, but life has been sweeter and challenges easier because I know Jesus Christ is my Savior. This life truly is a test to see if through thick or thin I will choose Him over other "good things."

How I live my faith

I try hard not to compare myself to others. There are a great deal of people that are smarter, stronger, prettier and more talented than me, but I feel that there are people that cross my path whom I can serve and make their lives better. Whether it be a smile or helping to fix a roof or a visit when times are tough, lifting with others makes outcomes look better. I have felt the same from others in my life and it has made all the difference. It must be said that it is not coincidence that they or I have crossed paths, it is by divine providence. The Church of Jesus Christ has afforded me many structured and unstructured opportunities to serve others. Throughout my membership I have served as an assigned home teacher to visit 4 or 5 families/individuals every month. It has been a greater highlight to visit them than the lay leadership assignments. From June 1997-June 1999, I served a mission in Belo Hoizonte, Brasil. I learned to speak Portuguese in record time, a blessing of the gift of tongues. I was blessed to grow and develop as a person. But most notable was friendships I made while serving with other missionaries and teaching others about Jesus Christ and His plan of happiness. I still cherish the connections more than the traveling or language.
