Hi I'm Joel

I'm a Kiwi, I grew up on a National Park, I'm a student at university, I'm a Christian and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

So, I grew up in Hibiscus Coast of New Zealand and loved it here. Went to school and was involved in everything that I could there. I loved it and loved the people I was there with. My family is very sporty. My Dad loves his sports and we took up what he loved too. As a family we love to run, kayak, cycle, we all got into basketball or netball.. My family consist of my Dad, Mum, Me, My sister then my brother. We have lived on a Regional Park now for over ten years because my Dad is a Ranger. He deals with conservation of NZ native trees and helps to run the livestock here too. We have got sheep and cattle. After School I worked to save up for a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I went to Brisbane Australia and now I am back! I did this for two years and loved it! You learn SO MUCH! And you get to meet some great people and you develop a love for them too. Now I am back to work and Studies and getting on with life. I have the gospel and teachings of Christ to thank for everything good that has happened to me in my life. I am so grateful for my faith!

Why I am a Mormon

Well, although raised in the LDS church, it is something I have chosen to make a part of my life. I grew up learning the stories and facts of the church but believing them, takes something else. The Holy Ghost, there are moments where I can see his influence throughout my life and the communications I have received were witnesses to me that it was true. But most the time it came slowly and as I searched within and turned to my Heavenly Father I felt of his love and I gained a sure witness that the Book of Mormon is the word of God. I have seen and heard a lot since then, but I know that the witnesses I have had do come from a God who is our Father in Heaven, and he has blessed us with Restored Truth, and prophets again today. And like the Saviour said, if any man shall do his will, he shall know of the Doctrine. I know, and that is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

My faith distinguishes me from others, some people see me as loud or out there but when they find out i don't drink, smoke, that I don't believe in sex before marriage, or swear a lot that can surprise them. But I have been taught the gospel of our Saviour and now that leads me to being better and trying to be more like him. Because I am active in church I have a lot of involvement in things like going out to visit families and sharing messages from our church leaders with them, I help the Young Single Adults by getting involved and putting on activities for us to do. I find that my life style is really rewarding, God has given me so much! In the Eternal sense I am truly indebted to him but also in everyday of my life I have so much to thank him for, so I reflect my thanks by living as he would have me live, and then he just goes blesses me again! Not saying life is all easy but amongst the trials, I know where to go for joy and for peace and with God on my side, I'm always on top!

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Joel
The Lord wants his sons to have his experience, you grow so much from it. But its the same as any other commandment, we are free to choose. Show more Show less

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

Joel
For the building up of the Kingdom of God and so we are able to fund the resources to spread the restored truth and worship in a way pleasing to him, then having some mean youth and YSA activities too! Show more Show less

Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven’t we always had the Bible?

Joel
Because Christianity got lost and was held together by other churches in a way that it would lead people to God if they were truth seeking men or women. But, when the apostles were killed, they had no authority and they did some crazy things which is not what Christ wanted or what he set up. Show more Show less
