Hi I'm Ben

I was born in New Mexico, and have lived in Brazil. Now I'm a university student and a sales person. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hi, I'm Ben. I'm a senior in college studying International Relations. Some of the things I love include politics, movies, books on tape, friendly people, and music. I like to keep things organized - my pocket notebook is full of To-Do lists, random ideas, future plans, and daily schedules. I wish I was better at writing, better at drawing, and better at keeping my own laughter under control when telling jokes. I enjoy snowboarding, going to the gym, making pies, and playing group games. About two years ago I returned from a two year service mission in Brazil, and I have a deep love for Brazil and the Brazilian people. Someday, I want to be a teacher and a father. And I'm a Mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I believe in God, and because I have felt the truth of the principles taught in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as I have strived to live by them. For example, the scriptures and our leaders teach us to have a habit of praying and studying the scriptures every day. I has seen that as I pray sincerely and study the scriptures regularly I feel closer to God and it is harder for adversity or disappointments to get me upset. Throughout my life, I have also felt answers from God about the truthfulness of this church. I remember feeling a powerful feeling of love and confirmation when I prayed about the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. At the time, I was about 14 years old, and I was alone in my room one night reading near the end of the book. I felt impressed to ask God if the book was true, so I knelt down and asked the question to God in prayer. I remember the powerful feeling of peace and love that came over me as I asked--and it was much more powerful than I thought it would be. I knew then more than ever that God answers prayers, and that because He loves us so much He has brought forth additional light and knowledge about His son Jesus Christ, His doctrine, and His plan of happiness through the Book of Mormon and the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

After returning home from Brazil, I set a personal goal to read the scriptures every day for forty-five minutes, and I have tried hard to keep up the practice. I haven't been perfect, but daily study helps me feel close to God, keep my priorities straight, and maintain a positive perspective. I try to write down thoughts that come to me when I am studying as well. Almost invariably, the thoughts I receive are ideas to help and serve the other people I know. During these quiet moments of thoughtful solitude I have also had ideas that have greatly influenced my job, schooling, dating, and other personal decisions. Daily prayer has been equally important for me. Overall, all these things are just habits that help me remember Christ in my life. I know that by remembering Jesus Christ and how much He did for me, it is easier to be grateful and positive about life.
