Hi I'm Pat Wilder

Growing up in the military, I find joy in community service-as a volunteer, state legislator, and non-profit exec. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I believe our Heavenly Father has provided within each of us the ability to find a path that uses the talents we have been given to grow and serve. My opportunities started as a child in a military family living the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ and earnestly trying to be a good example of living my religion when no friends shared my religion. As a mother of five young children, it became very obvious that something needed to be done in a deteriorating neighborhood of a large and growing city for the safety and security of our children. Our family shared a desire to care for the homeless. Within a short period of time, this challenge provided an opportunity to serve on a city council and continue that same mission in the state legislature to change the conditions in which many families . Building and influencing families does not require position, money, or even leaving our home. Today as a grandmother, these experiences have lead to other ways in which my time and efforts in strengthening families of those who have fallen in defense of our country, as well as being an example to my 20 wonderful grandchildren.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because every aspect of the Gospel of Jesus Christ produces that which is "... honest, true, chaste, (and) benevolent... (LDS 13th Article of Faith)". My religion brings peace and provides an opportunity to share those same principles preparing for a life together with my family forever. I am a Mormon because by following the teachings of Jesus Christ, my life is enriched to provide a spiritual balance when tragedies and hardships tempt me to lose faith. I am a Mormon because I have prayed to know that there is a Heavenly Father and his Son died for me and have received confirmation within my heart. I am a Mormon because I have seen the teachings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ perform miracles in the lives of others.

How I live my faith

Serving in our families, church and community is a major part of what Mormons believe. Besides personal projects and work, my church assignment is to serve in my church as a community relations specialist assisting in organizing my congregation with projects and programs outside of our faith to strengthen the communities in which we live. Over the past 40 years, my church assignments have included leadership of teen aged young women and teaching young children. It was while serving in leadership with the adult women of my congregation that some of our widows were experiencing condemnation of their homes by the city and had the opportunity to become actively involved with the community in assisting them in dealing with city government.
