Hi I'm Luis

I'm an Army Veteran, I like to hike and fish. I love my family, making new friends, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Luis, I am originally from a small town in Mexico. When I was eight years old, my family moved to Texas. After graduating from high school, I became a member of the Mormon Church, in 1978. It was then that I had a job delivering produce at a Romney Produce Inc., that I found the church. Most of my co-workers who delivered produce with me, were returned missionaries. I became interested in joining the church, and took the lessons, taught by the local full time missionaries. Two years after becoming a member, I went on a mission. Since my parents could not afford to pay for my mission, the local ward members in Washington state, where I later relocated, paid my way to go on a mission to California. By that time my brother, two sisters and my parents had also moved to Washington. After my mission, I joined the military. I am the only member in my immediate family to join the church. My hobbies are, collecting coins and stamps. I also like to hike, fish, ride my motorcycle and hang out with friends at church activities.

Why I am a Mormon

I have always had a love and desire to help others in need. By becoming a member of His church, I knew in my heart that, that was my calling in life. I later chose to go on a mission, and it was during that time, that I was converted. I have chosen to become a member of the church, to serve others and help them find what I have found. I truly believe this to be the true Church of Jesus Christ. I have grown in a lot of ways, my testimony has increased and I have come a long way since I first heard of the church. I know that Jesus is the Christ, He is our Savior, and died on the cross for all of us. He is my redeemer, and yours, who atoned for our sins and afflictions. I also know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God, a second testament of Jesus Christ along with the Bible. One can come closer to the knowledge of the love our Heavenly Father has for us by reading this book. I know that the prophet Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon by the gift and power of God. I truly believe that I would be lost in the world by not having the spirit of the Lord with me as a constant companion to guide and direct me. That is why I continue to attend His Church.

How I live my faith

I volunteer at the local animal shelter, twice a week, for two hours, each day, by walking dogs on the early morning dog crew. As a veteran, I go to a VA Hospital, for my medical. There are classes to go to, and participate in. Such as tying flies and building fly rods, wich we use on fishing excursions throughout the Puget Sound area. I am currently working at the Seattle Temple in Bellevue, in Housekeeping, and also volunteer at the recommend desk on Tuesday mornings. I am active in church functions as in the Spanish Pioneer Branch in the Auburn Stake. As well as in activities in the church, such as helping people move when needed. Being single, I'm active in single activities. Another responsibility in the church, is hometeaching families assigned to me and my companion, another branch member. By hometeaching, we both visit three to four families once a month to see about their needs and well being. We also look to see how they are doing and help them in anyway we can, to make their lives easier.
