Hi I'm Stephanie

I grew up in a green city in Arizona. I am a mom, a displaced teacher, a gamer, a crafter and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to read books. I can get so lost in a book that I get cranky at anyone who interrupts me. I love to fence. I took a fencing class in college and I was hooked on it. My friend and I used to fence outside my apartment on the grass. Some of the first dates with my husband were fencing club then he treated me to Pizza after. I love to create things. I sew, I make jewelry, I make little sculptures with polymer clay, and I write stories. At work I have become known as the girl with the flower in her hair, since I wear the flower hair clips I made. I love sewing costumes. My house is overflowing with projects. I love to game. I play video games, mainly RPGs. I have a PS2 and a Wii. I play board games. My husband and I have a game night every now and then with our friends who also like board games. I love to play Dungeons and Dragons. Our latest DM is doing a world that is a version of one of the video games we love. I also play War Hammer. I have a 40K ork army and a Fantasy dark elves army. Lately we have come to love Mincraft, which is like playing with legos, but with zombies. I love the outdoors. Camping and hiking in the forest mainly. I don't get to do much of that in the desert we live in though. I am a mom of a preschooler. I taught for a year in junior high, and I never want to go back. I now work at a hobby shop which I love. I get to use my talents all the time there, but not really my college degree. I love math and science. I tutor friends and family.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a family that were members of the church. I really decided that I wanted to be part of it when I was a teenager. I think being in the young women's program was what helped me to develop my testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I had loving leaders who listened to my struggles. For a time I was the only child of my siblings that attended church. It was hard to be alone at church. My leaders got me through. They encouraged me when I was down, and helped remind me of what I knew to be true. They taught me what it meant to be a follower of Jesus Christ. I read my scriptures every day, and I prayed. I grew a testimony, and everything I have learned since has proven to me there is a God. My leaders were great examples to me. When my father had an accident at work, and became disabled as a result, I relied on the Lord and he strengthen me. I was able to find a way to push through the trial with a mostly positive attitude. I read the Harry Potter books to my father while he was in the hospital and when he came home. He could no longer read to us. He couldn't read or talk much at all. My father and I also developed a close relationship by watching Doctor Who together. I know the Lord gave me that time to be with my father. He helped me to be there and give self-less service just the the savior would have if he had been there. My siblings were not able to handle what happened well. My family did eventually grow stronger because of this trial. I am a Mormon because I am learning the type of person the savior was, and I want to be like that. I am a Mormon because I know that Heavenly Father loves us so much he has given us prophets to teach us what the he wants us to know. I know he has given us a Prophet today. I know the Book of Mormon tells of Jesus Christ. I have read it and I have prayed asking to know if it is true. I know that family is the most important part of being on earth. I am a Mormon, and I know I can be with my family forever.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by participating in my church meeting. I sit next to my friend who has some medical problems. I try to help her be comfortable. In the women's meeting I teach on the second Sunday of the month. I prepare to participate in the lessons by reading the material we are covering during the week before. This year we are studying the New Testament. On Mondays my family has family home evening, which is a small lesson about the teachings of Jesus Christ, and a family activity after the lesson. Since we have a small child the lessons are not long, but he is learning. During the rest of the week I spend time with my family. I teach my son about sharing, and being a good kind person. Which means I try to be a good example, and be a kind person myself. I live my faith by being honest and hard working at my job. I try to be helpful to others. I make sure when someone helps me I express how much I appreciate it. I live my faith by trying to model what I do after the Savior. I try to help the sad, by cheering them up, or just listening to them. I take care of my family. I serve when I can. I spend time with others. I pray and study what more I can do.
