Hi I'm Gary

I'm a Mormon.I'm a pediatrician, a husband, father, and grandfather. I climb, ski, kayak; I'm in a bluegrass band. I'm a mormon

About Me

I am 58 years old,I have 5 kids, and (currently) 8 grandkids. My wife and I have beed married for 40 years. I love backpacking, mountain climbing, skiing, and I play mandolin/banjo/guitar/bass in a bluegrass band (I tried to play fiddle also, but gave it up-too hard). I am a pediatrician (a kid doctor) and love what I do. I work in a private office, and have volunteered at a community free clinic for the past 15 yrs. I am a scoutmaster.

Why I am a Mormon

My wife became active in the church after we were married, and I would occasionally go with her. I saw the goodness of her life as she became more involved. After we started having kids, I think I wanted the happy family life I saw in the Mormons I knew, so I decided I needed to investigate the church. As I started going to church consistantly, fasting, and reading their Book of Mormon, I discovered I was immensely happier. That was the beginning of my faith that there really was something to this church. As I lived the life they preached, I knew I should join with them. As I have continued to be active, studied, and changed my life, it brought me such happpiness, helped me to actually be a better husband and father, and helped me to be a better person. Other than marrying my wife, joining the church was the smartest thing I've ever done. As I've listened to, and followed the words of living prophets (especially when they didn't seem to make sense at the time), I learned they really are prophets-they speak the word of God. What an amazing thing! I am so happy I am a Mormon!

How I live my faith

I am currently serving as a scoutmaster-working with 12 and 13 year old boy scouts- and teach them on Sundays also. I recently served for 6 years as a bishop (a pastor of the congregation). I work in a free clinic. I've been on the board of directors of the Arizona Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and I am currently serving on the medical education committee (planning education meetings for pediatricians).
