Hi I'm Debbie

I am a wife, mom, grandma, AZ native, full time student getting a degree in nutrition, do wedding cakes and flowers & I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born & raised in Arizona. My family goes back 5 generations here. I met my husband on a blind date, 10 days later we were engaged, 2 1/2 months later we were married in the Mesa, AZ temple. I had 3 children, he had 2. We were an instant family of 7. We were later blessed with one more child a little over a year later. Now grandkids are filling our lives. With the downturn of the economy, i have gone back to school to pursue a degree in nutrition. My husband lost his business and is currently working in Afghanistan. Life is hard and very busy at the moment. School is keeping me very busy and helps to keep the sting out of my husband being in a war-torn country. In my spare time (not much of that going on right now) I love to make wedding cakes, do flower aranging, garden, do anything creative, play with my grandkids, try out new recipes, take care of my animals (2 very spoiled dogs, a cat, and some chickens), go to the movies, am learning to play the harp, and I enjoy the outdoors whenever I can. I cherish the times that I can spend with my husband when he gets his breaks. We love to travel.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born & raised in the church. My heritage goes back to the pioneers who left Navoo, Illinoise in the 1800's to travel west to Utah. As a teenager & young adult, I often wanted to have that major life-changing experience to solidify my testimony of the gospel. I had heard of so many wonderful conversion stories that were so impactful. I wanted to feel of that absolute surety. That never came. Instead, it was more of a quiet & peaceful realization that I always knew in my heart of it's truthfulness. I had my answer. I knew. This has been my anchor through some really tough times. I have survived 2 broken & abusive marriages, being a single parent, major financial dificulties. I could not have done so without the knowlege of my Savior & the atonement, and the guidance that I have received through personal revelation. The world can be a tough place, but having this knowlege & gift gives me great peace. I have seen great blessings in my life as a result of adhering to gospel principles. I know that as tough times continue all around, the peace of the knowlege of where I came from, of who I am as a daughter of God, and what I can become gives me direction in my life & helps me to get through whatever trial that I might have to face.

How I live my faith

I am currently the choir director in my ward. I have a love of music and know the wonderful spirit that can be felt through music. This is definitly out of my comfort zone, as often happens with callings. I have held various callings from teaching children, helping out at Girls Camp, & organizing activities for 400 people. Even though I might not have the expertise to be perfect in these callings, I learn & grow from each of these experiences. It's always interesting how many of the calling that i have had help me to develop skills that become valuable in other areas in my life. I try to follow gospel principles daily. They help me to be a better person. With my husband being in Afghanistan, we try to have daily scripture study over SKYPE. I am so grateful to have the technology available to be able to continue that with him. I love the scriptures...all of them. It always amazes me that whatever my concerns are, or what i have been praying for, often is answered with the very verses that we were reading at the time.
