Hi I'm Val

I'm a retired engineer. I love to read, hike, travel, take photos and spend time with my family and friends. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was raised to maturity on a potato farm in Idaho. My wife was my high school sweetheart and we have been married over 50 years. We have six wonderful and awesome children who are spread over six states in the western USA. We have twelve grandchildren of which eleven are boys. As a youth my parents encouraged me to obtain a college education. I am a mechanical engineer whose early career was as an engineering consultant and later as a facilities manager at two major institutions of higher education for over 32 years. I retired in 2000 and currently live in Arizona. In retirement I participate in volunteer and service activities for a retirees group and my church. I have been a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints known to some as the Mormons or LDS Church.

Why I am a Mormon

As a child my family was not completely active members of the LDS Church, but I chose to be an active member early in life. Over time I learned the gospel’s principles line upon line and precept upon precept—similar to how I learned most things in life. In every stage of my life from childhood to old age the Lord has watched over and protected me during incidents and activities that could have resulted in serious injury or death. I am convinced that I was guided and protected so that I could complete the mission I was sent to earth to perform. Throughout adulthood I have attempted to live the kind of life that would be acceptable to the Lord. I have not always done the right things and have experienced many of life’s foibles and weaknesses. But through it all, I stayed close to the Church and accepted callings that came to me from God’s servants. As an adult I was blessed to have good friends and family members that helped and supported me in my everyday needs as well as by their good example. The Lord has blessed me with many opportunities to serve in a wide variety of Church callings, all of which have helped me grow spiritually and increase in faith, understanding and testimony. In my professional career I tried to incorporate the principles of honesty, integrity and fairness into my daily work and routine. Over the years I found joy in seeing my family grow and develop in faith and spirituality and become contributing members of society. I am comforted to know that my wife and I and our family will be together forever through the sealing power of God performed in His holy temple. I have received faith and hope from the teachings found in the Book of Mormon and the Bible and I know these to be the word of God. My faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ has sustained me over the years. I am eternally grateful for The Atonement of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and for the exalted Plan of Happiness offered to me and my family by my Heavenly Father.

How I live my faith

I consistently strive to follow the teachings and commandments of Jesus Christ and use the example of His life to guide mine. I seek for inspiration of the Holy Ghost to guide me in making good decisions and right choices. I pray to my Heavenly Father asking for needed blessings and giving thanks for blessings received. I accept calls to serve the Lord as they are extended from Church leaders and do my best to carry them out in an exemplary manner. I endeavor to be faithful in serving others and by giving to the poor and needy. I am willing to share my knowledge of the gospel with others, both inside and outside the Church. As a recipient of God’s holy priesthood, I use the sacred power of the priesthood to bless my family and others. I have a strong desire and commitment to keep my covenants with God and to be faithful to the end of my life.
