Hi I'm Torry

I'm a semi-retired disc sports enthusiast. I live for summertime grilling and outdoor family adventures. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've lived in Utah, Germany, Chicago and now Washington. I miss the fantastic food in Chicago, and the beauty, language and food of Germany. But I love living in the northwest. My three kids claim most of my excess energy; in exchange I get to experience the wonder and happiness of the world as they see it. I love reading, trivia, and solving problems that help me understand the world better. And my wife and best friend helps me learn from and appreciate it all.

Why I am a Mormon

A series of experiences in my late teenage years really helped me come to know that Jesus Christ is my savior and that living as he taught brings true happiness. When I've faced difficult and uncertain times, my faith has been strengthened as I've been blessed and guided to make good decisions for me and my family. No matter how the world or my circumstances change, knowing that this is true is a constant source of comfort and direction.

How I live my faith

Lately I've been working with other members of my congregation to get involved in our community. In the past few months we've participated in Relay for Life and helped collect food for the local food bank. Prior to that, I taught Sunday School to some amazing ten- and eleven-year-old kids for two years. It was a blast - we had a lot of fun and learned a lot together. In addition to attending church on Sundays, our family has a weekly "Family Night" where we have a short (tailored to my 3-year-old's attention span) lesson about some aspect of our faith, then we play games and follow it up with some type of treat.
