Hi I'm Aubrey Shaner

I grew up in a big blended family. I am a Better Homes and Gardens recipe contest winner. I am a birth doula. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Utah, and am the oldest child in my family. My parents divorced when I was 11 (I had three younger siblings), and now I have step-parents and a handful of step-siblings. We are all very close, and I believe family happiness can be achieved no matter what the circumstances. I am a very passionate person and am always working toward achieving new goals. I grew up in Utah but always wanted to spread my wings. I first attended college in Idaho, then finished my Bachelor of Arts in Print Journalism at a university in Utah. I interned at Newsweek in Manhattan right before serving a Spanish-speaking LDS mission in the San Francisco area. Afterward, I worked in weddings, planning bridal expos and booking brides for a high-end photographer. While in the industry, I met my husband. I now stay at home with two beautiful children and a chihuahua. I also work as a birth doula on the side. I love cooking, entering recipe contests, reading, gardening, and running. I completed my first half marathon and would like to train for more soon.

Why I am a Mormon

From the time I was a little girl, I always had faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I remember praying for my glasses when they got lost; I searched the scriptures to find out what happened to our spirits when we died; I played hymns on our piano and sang praises to Heavenly Father. Now that I am grown, I can see how my simple faith as a child has not only grown, but has sustained me through life's difficulties. Looking back at my teen years, I am grateful that I had been taught strong moral values. I knew that to be happy I needed to keep my mind, spirit, and body clean. Now that I am a mom of two, I want to instill those same values in my own children. I want them to know that they are special, loved children of a Heavenly Father; that life has a purpose; that choosing to follow Christ will bring them happiness. I am a Mormon not only because I feel this is the true church of Christ, but I have tested the teachings and have seen my life be filled with happiness and peace.

How I live my faith

I work with the youth, and I love it! On Sundays I teach 14 and 15-year old girls. Some of the subjects we cover are our purpose in life, overcoming opposition, dating decisions, forgiving others, and learning about Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Once a week we also have activities that are not only fun, but teach good life skills and faith in our Savior.
