Hi I'm Valerie

I'm a mom, a grandma, a musician, a teacher, and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I love music! I teach orchestra classes to about 200 elementary and junior high school students. Although I play all the string instruments, my primary instrument is violin. In addition to my public school position, I'm currently working on a PhD in Music Ed at our nearby university. Music is a very important part of my life in other areas as well. I sing in our church congregation choir and serve as the multi-congregation music specialist. My kids and husband are musicians as well! We play fiddling and folk music together as well as classical string quartets and ensembles. I love to sing with my kids in church choir. The music uplifts my soul and strengthens my spiritual resolve.

Why I am a Mormon

Religion has always been an important part of my life. I felt the loving influence of the Holy Ghost when I was a little girl while singing and playing music at church and at home through the loving efforts of my dear parents. Through studying the scriptures and fervent prayer I gained (and continue to renew) my own personal testimony that Heavenly Father loves me and in His infinite wisdom has prepared a path for me to return to him through the atonement of His Son, Jesus Christ. When I feel the love of God in church and through uplifting spiritual music it stirs my soul and reaffirms my knowledge that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is true! Those special moments draw me closer to God and influence me to do good and to keep covenants I have made with God to live in a way that is pleasing to Him. I find great meaning and purpose in life through the Gospel that has unified my family and brought us close to God. The Gospel of Jesus Christ fills my life with joy every day.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by filling my home with the light of the gospel. My family attends church every week and we participate in service opportunities and spiritual classes. I like to participate in our Sunday school classes where we discuss the Bible and Book of Mormon. I love to listen to the discussions as others share their testimonies and their personal experiences of a spiritual nature. Sometimes I substitute for the children's classes. I love to go to my grandchildren's nursery classes and see them learn simple but foundational truths about the gospel.
