Hi I'm Brett

I'm a father of four, a husband of 14 years, a motorcycle enthusiast, an investment professional, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I spend almost half of my day in an office, so I enjoy being outdoors as much as possible. I grew up in Southern California, where the weather forecast is typically sunny or sunny, most days of the year. Now in the Pacific Northwest, I try to take full advantage of every sunny day, as few and far between as they are. Whether I'm on my motorcycle enjoying some me time, or camping with family and friends, there is nothing like the great outdoors. When the weather is not so pleasant, it's family game time or movie night. Also, a little known secret about me is that I love to bake. Although, I need directions or a recipe and everything must be in exacting proportions, which can be a little frustrating to my wife who can whip up just about anything in the kitchen.

Why I am a Mormon

In short, I love how I feel when I live by the gospel of Jesus Christ. In contrast, my life before Christ was filled with some pretty dark days...days I can't or don't care to remember. I was fortunate to have found the love of my life, my eternal companion, who was raised in the church, but at the time, was not attending church. As a newly married couple, we were visited by many church missionaries, but kindly declined to read the Book of Mormon or participate in missionary discussions. It wasn't until we had our first child, that my wife and I took a long hard look at how we were living our lives. Our first child was a blessing, in many more ways than one. She was an angel sent from Heaven to unify us as husband and wife, as father and mother. This was our wake-up call. We needed to do something to better our lives and as a perfect plan would have it, we were visited by the sister missionaries. Soon after, I was baptized and a short time later, our family was sealed together for time and all eternity in the Oakland, CA temple. It has been an amazing journey thus far, not without its difficulties, but we have endured through our faith in Jesus Christ. I know first-hand what life is like with and without the gospel of Jesus Christ. I know, with all of my heart and soul, that He is our Lord and Savior, and this is His true church, restored here on earth by Joseph Smith. I feel blessed to be a Mormon and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

How I live my faith

In one word, "service". Service to one another, service to our Heavenly Father and service to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. By following the example of Jesus Christ, I know that many blessings will come not only to me and my family, but more importantly, to those whom I serve. There is no greater joy than knowing that I have brought comfort, peace, or happiness to someone in need. There is a lot of work to be done for our fellow friends and neighbors, and only hope and pray that I have opportunities to bless the lives of many through service and being a good example to others. On one Sunday out of the month, I have the opportunity to teach the men of our ward regarding the words spoken at our semi-annual General Conference. What a wonderful opportunity this is to serve in our ward and to discuss the important topics that have an impact and are so relevant to our lives today. I have a pre-teen daughter and three rambunctious boys, so for me, it's important to understand the challenges our youth face today and the experiences of others in dealing with these challenges. Preparation is the key to many things in life and through my faith, I know I will be better prepared.
