Hi I'm Jean

I grew up in Arizona. I am married and have four married children and 16 grandchildren. I love to quilt and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a daughter, wife, mom, and grandmother. I love to quilt and go on quilting retreats. I love to read and share those ideas with the ladies in my book club. One of the most enjoyable things we do is spend time at our mountain retreat. We share time there with our family and friends. I am a cheerleader at many sporting events while my grandchildren participate. I also enjoy spending time with the teenagers at early morning seminary. My husband and I have spent most of our adult lives working with teenagers in various high school settings. I love to spend time doing genealogy and finding out the courageous things my ancestors endured so that I might live the way I do. One of the things that seems out of character for someone with my profile is that I enjoy home repair and construction. I recently spent time with my son and his wife building a cabin. We built it from the ground up under some pretty adverse conditions at times. All these things help me develope strong family ties as I share my interests with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

While I was born and raised in the LDS Church, I came to know for myself the truthfulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ by studying the scriptures, praying, and trying to live my life the way the Savior would have me. Actively living as a "Mormon" has blessed me, my husband and our children and now their spouses and children. We have had many challenges in our lives just like the rest of the world but because of my knowledge that these things will help me be a better person I have been able to learn and grow from each challenge. A particular challenge was a few years ago when our first granddaughter was killed in an automobile accident and her younger sister was critically injured in the same accident. The incident occurred in a different state. While we were devastated, we were constantly comforted by our knowledge that our family will be together forever even though we are separated by death. We saw many miracles in the recovery of our injured granddaughter. Not only did the Lord bless her but many family, friends and hospital personnel blessed our lives by generously and tenderly anticipating our needs. We will be forever grateful for these blessings. I can't imagine living my life without the hope and promise in my loving Heavenly Father, my Savior, Jesus Christ, and the comforting companionship of the Holy Ghost.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving others by visiting several women each month to make sure they are doing well. We spend time discussing their lives and we encourage each other to try to do better. I also volunteer teaching leadership skills to a group of high school students before school. We spend time organizing activities for other teenagers and doing service projects. A friend of mine and I organize quilting retreats for women in our area with an interest in quilting and associating with other women. We organize four or five a year, some out of town and some in town. We find it helps us all improve our quilting skills and strengthens our beliefs as a diverse Christian group. We have discovered we have many things in common besides quilting. I have spent a lot of time this past year assisting my daughter and her husband as foster parents and in the adoption process of our latest grandchild. This has been a very rewarding experience. We have felt like we have made a difference in the lives of children in crisis.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

I have spent the past 20 years, in particular, studying the scriptures on a daily basis. I have come to understand and appreciate the love my Heavenly Father has for all of his children on the earth. I have also come to know that He has a plan for me and each of his children to help them gain knowledge and enjoy this life. I have also come to understand the love and sacrifice of Jesus Christ and what that means to me. I have taken great comfort in knowing that He atoned for my sins and I can be forgiven and move on to a happier life. I also have a strong belief in the resurrection and a life after death in His presence if I follow the things He has asked me to do. By studying the scriptures daily I am reminded of these things and keep myself focused on the things that are the most important. It is easy to be distracted in today's world. Having a personal devotional daily with the scriptures, prayer and meditation creates a pattern for my life each day. Show more Show less
