Hi I'm Alex.

I grew up in New Jersey. I like video games and other nerdy/geeky things. I am a biologist and love science. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I work in research compliance and laboratory safety, helping scientists perform their work while keeping them healthy and safe. I have a master's degree in Zoology with a minor in Neuroscience. I am fascinated by how incredible our brain is and marvel at our potential to learn and create. I believe that evolution is a real process in the natural world and that science helps us better understand our universe and ourselves. Outside of scientific thought, I really enjoy running and being physically active. I also have a passion for videogames and all things sci-fi/fantasy. I love music, form heavy metal to classical. I am married to a wonderful woman and we are expecting our first child in the next few months. I am really excited to be a dad!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints. I grew up in a house of faith and was raised with Chrisitian values. Unfortunately, as I grew older and witnessed the trials that my family has gone through as well as personal struggles my faith grew cold. I saw religion as a nice idea that no one really followed. I struggled to find personal meaning and direction in my life. Throughout my young adult years I lived a secular life. Seeking fulfillment in various pursuits and hobbies. Although these years were busy and I did accomplish some positive things I always felt something lacking. I felt empty and as if I wasn't accomplishing anything. During my second year of graduate school I meant a wonderful young women who was Mormon. We worked together over a period of months where we became friends. After a time this friendship grew into a budding romance. During this time of friendship and courtship we would speak about religion and the feelings I had regarding the practice of organized religion. This wonderful young women (who later became my wife) was struggling with her own feelings regarding faith at the time. She took the first step and started going back to church. At first I was hesitant, but the joy I saw in her and my own curiosity soon found me attending a Mormon church service. I found the service strange at first, but the people were kind and I felt good just being there. That is when I met the missionaries and agreed to hear what they had to say. As I attended my meetings with the missionaries I soon found that piece of my life I was lacking. The growth I was seeking. As they introduced me to the Book of Mormon and Heavenly Father's plan of happiness it was like a light bulb went on and I could see. I have hung on to that light ever since. As I have come to better understand my Father in Heaven and His son Jesus Christ my love for them has grown and the purpose I so sought was made known. That purpose is to follow my Savior Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I am an active member of our local church unit. I serve by assisting our local church leadership maintain accurated records of our members and church finances. I also participate in our church educational system assisting with a young married student seminar aimed at helping young couples strengthen their marriages through living Christ centered lives.
