Hi I'm Alan Ray

Born and raised in Mesa, AZ. I love the outdoors, hunting & stream fishing. I've worked with BSA for 30 years. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was 21 & my wife was 19 when we got married. 10 months later we had our 1st child. Within 5 years we had 4 children, 3 boys & 1 girl. Now 32 years later we've added 10 grandchildren to the mix. I love my family! My grandkids are so much fun, I wish I could have had them 1st. I love the outdoors. As a hobby I video tape wildlife, mostly elk & deer. I love gardening, racquetball, chess, fishing, & hunting. I'm a contractor & I specialize in trim carpentry (doors, shelving, base, & crown molding. I enjoy my work most of the time. I enjoy helping people.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I was born to great Latter-Day Saint parents, who taught me & showed me by example what living the gospel of Jesus Christ was like. I learned from a young age, that living and following the teachings of the scriptures & Latter-Day prophets, brought true freedom & happiness to them & our family. I want , in my life & family, the same peace & joy they found through the gospel. When I was 18 & preparing for a mission, a friend of mine & I visited every denomination we could find in the phone book, and each sunday for months we attended their services & met with their leaders. We made a list of gospel questions to ask them, like; Where did we come from? Why are we here? & where are we going?, along with many other questions, about how they were called to the ministry, & their church doctrines on many topics. We concluded if we weren't Mormon we couldn't follow any of them. There were big holes in their teachings that didn't follow scripture. Christ taught in the New Testament John 7:17 if any man will follow his teachings he will know they are from God. I have put that to the test and I know the teachings of the Church are of God. I love the church and am proud to be called a Mormon. I love the peace it gives to me and how by living the teachings of the Church, I have been able to stay close to my Savior Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

There is a passage in the Book of Mormon that says, When you're in the service of your fellow man you're only in the service of your God. I have found tremendous joy in serving others. Since the Church has no paid clergy, there is always opportunities to serve others. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day saints sponsors a Boy Scout troop. I have served in Boy Scouts for over 30 years as Cub Master (boys 8-10), Scout Master & Assist. Scout Master (boys 12-13), Varsity Coach (boys 14-15). I have also served as a Sunday school teacher and other positions of leadership which have brought me lots of joy. Serving others gives more back to you than you can ever give. The Church teaches us how to be better husbands & fathers. I still have a lot of work to do, but, I know I'm a better man because of its teachings.
