Hi I'm Zach

I'm a writer and a publisher. I'm an attorney and consultant. I'm a dad. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a writer, something that I've done since I was in junior high. I've been writing and podcasting online for five years, and have recently gotten into self-publishing. I am also a big geek. My parents took me to see Star Wars when I was five. It kind of freaked them out, because it was the first time I'd gone to the movies and not been fidgety, asking for popcorn, all that. I sat and stared, and it's been downhill from there. Most of my writing is science fiction and fantasy. I'm also a gamer, and I enjoy playing video games with my daughter.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in the LDS church, but when I went to serve my own mission, I needed to figure out for myself whether I really believed it. I studied hard, read the Book of Mormon, and got a powerful witness from the Spirit that the Book of Mormon was true. I love the Book of Mormon. My heroes are in the Book of Mormon. When I get down, I remember stories from the Book of Mormon that encourage me and buoy me up. I remember the stories of Nephi, of Alma, Abinidai, Helaman, and others who testified of Christ's love, and of His Gospel. The Book of Mormon strengthens my belief in and my reliance on Jesus Christ as my Savior. I know that anyone who studies and asks God with real intent if this is true will get the same answer I did.

How I live my faith

At Church, I enjoy the music. For years, growing up, I played piano for the men's classes, and I really enjoyed pounding my way through a rousing hymn to get people a little more awake. Now, I sing the hymns when I feel blue, or when I'm faced with temptation. Humming my favorite hymns gets my mind back on the right track. I read in the scriptures, looking for help, for guidance, and for inspiration. As I do that, I get a feeling of peace and strength that helps me throughout the day. I try to be a good example, and while I'm not perfect, I remind myself that Paul told Timothy to be an example of the believers (1 Timothy 4:12), and that's something I aspire to.

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Of course, Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God. In the Bible, we get the story of Joseph in Egypt, Moses, Joshua, Elijah, and the prophecies of Isaiah. It's in the Bible that we receive the words that Christ gave to his disciples and apostles. It's there that we get the parable of the Good Samaritan, the widow's mite, and other great and important teachings. It's there that we read of Christ's sacrifice and resurrection. I love the Bible. So, why the Book of Mormon? The Book of Mormon does not compete with or replace the Bible. The Book of Mormon complements and supports the Bible. It testifies of the Bible. The two of them together teach important principles and bear witness of Christ. Show more Show less
