Hi I'm Pat

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I was baptized when I was 18 and served a fulltime mission for the Church in the Netherlands. I graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelors degree in Design and Graphics Technology and a masters degree in Computer Integratred Manufacturing. My Ph.D is in Educational Technology. I have worked in the aerospace industry in Southern California, the computer software industry in Cincinnati, Ohio, and am currently employed as a professor of computer graphics technology at a Midwestern university. I have been married to an amazing woman for 30 years and have six wonderful children (two deceased). I enjoy reading, hiking, and shooting sports.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised Catholic and was greatly blessed by that upbringing, but found myself seeking for clarity and answers to doctrinal questions that I couldn't find on my own. When I was a senior in high school, a close friend shared the story of Joseph Smith's first vision with me, which touched me very deeply. She invited me to meet with the fulltime missionaries to learn more about the gospel of Jesus Christ, which started me on the path to my testimony of the truth of the Gospel. I started attending college and was quickly welcomed and made to feel at home in the Institute program there. I studied , pondered, and prayed about the Book of Mormon and the Church for several months. One night, after sincere prayer, I received a sure confirmation of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, of Joseph Smith as a prophet of God, and that the Church of Jesus Christ was the Lord's church on the earth today. Since that night 35 years ago, I have never doubted the truthfulness of the Gospel in any way. I have received many spirtual confirmations over the years that have continually witnessed of and reinforced that original witness that this is His church. Following the gospel has blessed my life in so many ways. I am a much better person than I would have been without this knowledge. My level of compassion for and service to my fellow man is much greater than it could have been without the gospel. Continual revelation from the prophets and directly from our Heavenly Father through the Holy Spirit is an incredible help in this complex world. The knowledge of the Plan of Salvation and the eternities helps keep the challenges and afflictions of this mortal life in perspective and manageable. There is no doubt or confusion about choices to make, direction to take in life, or why things happen. It is a wonderful blessing to know where we come from, why we are here, and where we are going after this life!

How I live my faith

I have had many opportunities to serve in teaching and leadership positions in the Church. I love this service, and have made it a priority in my life. It makes me feel like a disciple of Jesus Christ when I can teach others or help lift their burdens. I feel that it is a priviledge to help others, and it always helps me more than those I am trying to assist. I also try to keep myself at a good spiritual level, and make sure that I am growing spritually. I try to study the scriptures personally every day, and to talk to (and listen to) the Lord often in personal prayer. Things like daily scripture study as a family, daily family prayer, and weekly Family Home Evening (a Monday night program in the Church where we get together as a family to learn about the Gospel, have fun, and enjoy each other's company) have been a huge help in raising our children and keeping harmony in our home.
