Hi I'm Cory Hemmelgarn

I grew up in Ohio. I have one brother and two sisters, all younger. My family loves sports and having fun. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love sports and hangin out with my friends and family. I played basketball all growing up and played all four years of High School. I also played soccer up until my Sophomore year. After High School I worked for about a year at Play It Again Sports. It was fun working with something I loved. I did that to save up money for my mission, and thats where I am now. I am serving in the California, Carlsbad mission. I am so glad that I made this decision to come out and serve the Lord. After I return from my mission, I plan on going to college at BYU, however I do not know what I am going to major in. Then I just have see where life will take me

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that this is the Lords Restored Church. Through reading the Book of Mormon and praying about it, I have come to know of the truthfulness of it. Like everyone else, I am not perfect, I have made mistakes. But that is what the Atonement is there for. Through Faith in Jesus Christ, we can leave our sins in the past and be forgiven of them. That is why i'm out here away from my family for two years, to try and share this joy that I have, with other people. There are alot of skewed beliefs of the Church of Jesus Christ, so the only way to know for yourself is to get on your knees and ask him for yourself. I couldn't be happier to consider myself a member of his church

How I live my faith

I live my faith by setting the best example that I can for others, by living the way that I know I should. To me there isnt any other way. I have made the decision to serve a full time two year mission, and dedicate 100% of that to the Lord. Before my mission I loved helping my community and those all around the world. I traveled to the Dominican Republic a few summers ago, paying my own way, to build homes for the less fortunate. Seeing the smiles on their faces made it all worth it to me. Also getting my Eagle Scout Award, that is a great accomplishment in my life. My Eagle Scout project was so fun. Through donations, we were able to fill 66 backpacks with necessary items such as warm clothing, toilet paper, toothbrushes and toothpaste, combs and other self grooming items, soap, blankets, socks, and many more. We then donated them all to a homeless shelter, who distributed them among the needy. I enjoy showing my Faith by helping others as Christ did while he was on the Earth.

What is the priesthood?

Cory Hemmelgarn
The Priesthood is the authority to act in Gods name. The rights of the Priesthood are inseperably connected with the powers of Heaven. And if you are not living your life worthily, you do not have the authority to exercise your priesthood. And the only way to get it back is to repent of your sins with a sincere heart. The way to gain this authority, is to enter into the covenant of baptism. You must be baptized by one who holds this authority. After you do that, worthy holders can perform blessings and ordinances. Once we are given this sacred responsibility Heavenly father expects us to live our life with high standards. Everyone is capable of living this way, wether they think they are or not. Once you get the attitude that you can, it will happen. Show more Show less
