Hi I'm Sheli Griffin Riggs

I'm a Jane Austen fan, a mother and a friend. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I live in the southwestern part of the United States and enjoy blue skies and warm weather. I love to read, run, travel and spend lots of time with family and friends. I especially love the ocean and the sound that the tide makes when it comes rolling in. My best vacation is any ocean, a good book and my husband and children laughing in the background … life doesn’t get any better! I come from a family who is quite diverse… a brother who is gay and a recovering addict and a sister who is an alcoholic. I did the regular things growing up like playing sports, being boy crazy, a cheerleader and trying to get better grades than my best friend (Never really happened!). I went into college thinking that I was going to change the world by becoming a Social Worker. I realized after my first class that the only person I could change was myself. I ended up getting my degree in Family Resource and Human Development at Arizona State University. I am now trying to at least change the world with my 5 children and husband who I love. My husband and I have been married for almost 18 years now. Being a mother and wife has been the hardest, yet thee most rewarding experience of my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up as a Mormon, but that doesn’t mean that I didn’t have my own conversion story. Why I continue to be a Mormon is because I have seen what living the teachings of Jesus Christ can bring. Being a disciple of Jesus Christ brings peace and hope in my life that makes me feel complete. I know who I am, I know why I am here and I have the tools that will get me to what I want to become.

How I live my faith

I live my faith one day at a time. I go to church every Sunday where I work with Young women ages 16 to 19 years old, I volunteer in my community, I try to be a good neighbor and a friend, I take responsibility for my children, I take responsibility to teach my children right from wrong, I try to be a supportive wife to my husband (when he is right :), I vote and support local or world leaders that represent me, I try to be honest in all my dealings with other people, I read from the "Bible" and "The Book of Mormon" each day, I pray every day with my family and by myself for strength and guidance, I use the atonement each day because I am not perfect and I always ask myself in all that I do… “What would Christ do?” Most importantly, I think the best way to be a disciple of Jesus Christ is to live by EXAMPLE!
