Hi I'm Leigh

I grew up in Missouri. I'm a college student. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to backpack, swim, bike, hike, and run. I love going on adventures with friends or just watching a movie. I love school (well, most classes). I want to travel.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member my whole life. However, I was not forced to be a member of the LDS church. I have remained a member of this church because I know that it is true. I have read the Book of Mormon and prayed to know if it is true. I received a confirmation. I have also been given this confirmation while attending talks given by our prophet or other religious authorities called of God. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. An uneducated ploughboy from New York was able to obtain and translate the Book of Mormon only through the power of God. He was sent to bring the gospel to our time. The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ. If you read it and pray about it, you too can receive a confirmation of this truth. I know this without a shadow of a doubt.

How I live my faith

I have a job in our student congregation. I am the secretary for the relief society (our women's organization). This means that I take notes in meetings and help the president of this society so that she can have a lighter burden. I am also one of the people responsible for keeping track of members of our congregation who might be having a hard time or need help with something. The main way we do this is through Visiting Teaching. All of the women in our congregation are assigned a few other women to teach and help. Visiting teachers can help these friends in many capacities whether it be giving them a ride when their car has broken down, taking notes for them in class, or just lending a listening ear. I also help organize activities for the women in the ward, that they might get to know one another better. In the past I have taught adult sunday school lessons, organized ward dinners, taught young children sunday school lessons, and helped with geneology work.

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

LDS members wear their "sunday best" for church. It is our way of showing respect for the Lord in our Sunday worship. For women this would be skirts or dresses for women/girls and suits for men/boys. Modesty for women is generally considered that skirts and dresses be around knee length and blouses to not be obscenely tight or show cleavage. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a Christian faith. We believe that Christ was our savior. Because of this we celebrate Christmas and Easter and consider them to be significant holidays because of the importance their history has in our beliefs. As a United States Citizen, I also celbrate national holidays along with birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Show more Show less
