Hi I'm Mike

I love to try new things, photograph everything, go on tiny adventures, laugh with my friends and family, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a father of 4 and husband to a creative, fun, smart wife who is a joy to be around. My oldest child is 3.5 years old, and we just had twins. Some people think I'm crazy, but I love playing, teaching and raising these incredible kids. I love to laugh. I didn't realize that I laugh more than most people until I realized all of my good friends had commented that I do. I love to try new things. As a result, I find myself rotating through hobbies like SCUBA, Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA), Video Game Philosophy, Reading (especially speculative fiction and cookbooks) and anything computer/technology related. While I used to deny it, I've come accept that I'm an Apple fanboy. I spend most of my day teaching people how to use computers and other technology. I'm always looking for new ways to use technology to benefit my own life and that of my friends and family. I'm proud of the fact that I am nearly paperless at home. Many weekends I'll photograph weddings, and I love it. I always want to eat new foods. I'll try anything. I've never met a food I didn't like, only foods that didn't like me. Sushi, sweet and sour meatballs and cheap greasy Mexican food are my favorites. I don't drink alcohol, so I started a blog called Juice of the Vine that reviews and helps people find great alternative gastronomic drinks. I too often would choose a hammock over a new home project, yet somehow I cajole myself to do home improvements and hard work one way or another.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up as a member of the church, but it wasn't until my early teens that I truly understood the impact being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ could have in my life. A wonderful teacher in my life encouraged me to Pray and ask if the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ was a true record of God's dealings with his Children on earth. I received a witness that it was, and that the Church of Jesus Christ was established by a Prophet of God, just as in the times of the Old and New Testament where it is recorded that God, through Jesus Christ, guided his children and brought salvation to them. The modern Church is place where friends and acquaintances try to lift each other up, and where much service to the community is given. We are not perfect, we make mistakes, and that is why we meet together and try to help each be better people, and better followers of Christ. Most of my experiences have been tremendously positive, though, and anyone at all is welcome to attend our Sunday services and other activities through the week. My life has been blessed by my association and service with other members of the Church.

How I live my faith

I currently help the leaders of several congregations organize the activities, worship, and needs of those who participate in our local services. I often help with and teach how to use the technology we use, such as online calendars, scripture study apps, presentation setup, etc. I also consider raising my children with my wife, teaching them the Gospel of Christ, and experiencing the love they bring to our family one of the greatest blessings and callings I could experience.
