Hi I'm Amanda

I'm originally from the East coast but now live in Arizona. I'm a dancer, a wife, a stay-at-home mother of 5, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a 40-ish woman who was born in Virginia, the 3RD of four girls, but I spent most of my growing up years in Rhode Island. I was often the only Mormon in my school, but I actually kind of liked being a little different from everyone else. Most of my friends shared the same values I did, and they made it easy for me to live the high standards I set for myself. I went to college in Utah, at Brigham Young University, which is where I met my husband in the marching band. I graduated with a bachelor's in modern dance and spent the next 12 years teaching children's dance for BYU, something I loved! When we moved to Arizona for my husband's work, we had four children. A few years later, we added a fifth child to the family. Those children now range in age from 18-3 years old, so they keep us pretty busy! While here in AZ, I have gotten involved in volunteering at my children's schools, teaching aerobics and Pilates for the women in my church group, taking a clogging dance class, co-teaching a home-based preschool with two other moms, and teaching creative dance classes in my home for 3-5 year olds. I love dance, exercise, cooking/baking, reading, and spending time with my family. I also enjoy serving in my church in various capacities.

Why I am a Mormon

I was fortunate enough to be born into the Church, but I made the choice to remain an active participant in the gospel of Jesus Christ. I have had it confirmed to me numerous times throughout my life that God is real, He is aware of me, and He loves me. The Holy Spirit has testified to me that this is His gospel, and I am where I belong. I can never deny the Lord nor His gospel, and despite difficulties in life, I am happy because I have the Church in my life. It is not only about going to church on Sundays, but it is a part of who I am.

How I live my faith

Throughout my years as a member of the church, I have had the opportunity to work in the church in many different ways. I have taught lessons to children, teenagers, and adults; I have organized parties and activities; I have typed up newsletters; I have led the music; I have spoken in group meetings; I have visited with women in their homes to teach and uplift them; and I have cooked many meals for others and served wherever I could. There is never a dull moment in the church. There is something for everyone to do and everyone is needed. I've loved all the people I have been able to work closely with, the things I have learned, the way I have grown, and the feeling of peace and love I experience when I am serving others. In my personal life, I try to live the gospel of Jesus Christ by praying and reading the scriptures daily to help me feel close to the Lord and have His Spirit to guide me throughout the day. My family is a huge part of my life, and most things I do are for and with them. We pray and read scriptures together, attend our church meetings together, and gather at least once a week for a family night, where we have spiritual instruction and play games together. I know I am not perfect, but I try every day to behave the way Jesus would have me -- to be kind and compassionate, and to love and help others. I also try to teach my children these principles, for I know this will bring them the greatest joy.
