Hi I'm Denzel

I grew up on a small farm in a small farming community. I became an aeronautical Engineer, and worked in space. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up on a small farm in a small farming community. When the Korean war started I found myself in the war as an aircraft mechanic. After the war I went back to school, but at a larger school with an Aeronautical Engineering Program. I became an aeronautical Engineer, and worked in space. I received my BS in AE and started work at a large Aerospace company. I later received Masters Degrees in Aeronautical Engineering and in Systems Management. I had married while in school and we have had six children, we lost one at birth, but the rest have grown up and have been a joy in our lives. I have retired after spending 49 years in the nation’s space programs doing trajectory design, guidance, navigation, and flight planning for both low and high earth orbits. I have been on hand for launches of the space shuttle in Florida and military launches from Vandenberg Air Force base in California.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Mormon Church and have been an active member all my life. As I have traveled and met many from others faiths and those of no faith. I have thus on occasion wondered if I would have ever joined the Mormon Church. It could have easily been that I would never have even heard about it as it still largely unknown in most of the world. I have wondered if I would have been open minded enough to listen carefully to the message and to have reviewed the doctrines should I have had occasion to hear of it. I know that if so I would have recognized the truths therein. Even then I would have had to face the ridicule of many others and to have overcome the habits, traditions and sins of a life lived up to that point in order to have joined. I hope that I would have been able to do so and I most admire those who have joined in their early and later years. Never the less I fell blessed to have grown up in the church and have become fully converted as the years have unfolded. I fully accept the existence of Jesus Christ and of his mission to bring salvation to all of the Fathers children. I know that his message is one of love and hope to all. That his life was the one perfect one and that the path he outlined is the only one leading to a life of joy and happiness here and hereafter.

How I live my faith

My life is one of activity in the church and I have served in almost every local office and organization of the church as a youth and in all later years. Even during my professional career I served during evenings and weekends in the church. My callings have included teaching the youth; Counseling members with personal or marital difficulties. I have organized local ecclesiastical units; trained, and supervised their leaders. I have served in the Temples as an ordinance worker and as an executive. With my wife we have served on a church mission away from our home for 22 months. We have served together in callings as home teachers of assigned families and worked in community service projects. We have donated funds and time to various community projects and voluntary humanitarian organizations. It has been a full and great life.
