Hi I'm Holly

I'm a mother. I'm a wife. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I dabble in just about everything. I love problem solving and figuring things out, like logic problems and sudoku and crossword puzzles. I love fixing things around my home - my favorites are the ones that require the use of my power tools. I love any kind of hand-work... especially quilting, crocheting, wood-working and painting. I am a plant scientist who loves to talk to my plants - both indoors and out - and I love my vegetable garden in the summer. I am a voracious reader - I'll read almost anything, and I love to learn new things. Most importantly: I am a wife, I am a mother, and I am a mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

I have never had any great or amazing spiritual experience, only thousands upon thousands of small ones. I have never seen my Father in Heaven or Jesus Christ when I pray, I have only felt them there listening to me. Comforting me when needed. I have never touched or seen the gold plates from which the Book of Mormon was translated, I have only read the Book of Mormon (and the Bible) multiple times... each time receiving confirmation through the Holy Ghost that they are the word of God. I have never met Thomas S. Monson, the Prophet, I have only heard him or read his words as he encouraged people to be better, or asked them to be righteous, or encouraged them to follow Christ - with promised blessings for doing so. For me, it's not the big or amazing things that make me believe the way I do... it's all the little things that add up. It's the small spiritual experiences that happen all the time. It's the prayers that are more like conversations because I know I am being heard. It's the discoveries and knowledge and inspiration I get when I read the scriptures. It's the blessings and wisdom that come from following the Prophet's advise - things that could never have come 'by chance.' I am forever grateful to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

How I live my faith

I am a volunteer tutor in my kids' grade-school and I have done so for over 7 years now. I love it... math and reading both! It is so rewarding to help kids learn, and to help them succeed. I am constantly working with the women in my church. Sometimes teaching about cooking or sewing or some other craft. Sometimes teaching gospel classes or topics. Sometimes planning and carrying out larger events like workshops or 2 day conferences. Most of the time I visit the other women in my church, helping them with whatever they are doing at the time and supporting them as they face challenges in their lives. My goal in life is that every day I will be a better person than the day before. It's hard. There are a lot of days that I fail, but just as many that I succeed. I am grateful for both the failures and successes, because of what I learn from each.
