Hi I'm Anita

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My story starts as the average American dream. Being married to the love of your life and having three children is somewhat of a living fairy tale. After 14 years of marriage, my fairy tale came to an abrupt end. My husband decided that he no longer wanted to be married and felt it was time for him to go out into the world to “find himself”. I thought about this and asked him what he meant by “find himself” to which he could not offer a legitimate explanation. Within a month’s time, he was gone from us, out searching for who knew what. What was going to happen to our lives? My two daughters and I were suddenly thrust out into the world alone. When you think that all is well and good and suddenly have the rug pulled from under you with nowhere to turn, that’s when fear sets in. It is extremely difficult to focus on the necessities of life and providing for your family alone when all you have ever known was something extraordinarily different. But that life was no longer an option and I had no choice but to bear down and concentrate on taking care of my two young daughters. .

Why I am a Mormon

The missionaries taught me about a young boy named Joseph Smith who was a modern prophet. God had restored knowledge about the true Gospel when this young man asked which church to join the 1800’s. Joseph went to the scriptures to search for an answer and in searching, he found James 1:5; “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God that giveth to all men liberally, and unbraideth not and it shall be given unto him”. Joseph received this instruction and was lead to a grove of trees outside of his home in upper in New York where he sat in prayer. He was told at that time to join no church at that time because there was no truthful word of the Gospel on Earth right then. As my learning progressed, I learned a truly wonderful truth called the Plan of Salvation and Plan of Happiness. I was taught that this plan was presented before the world was organized by our Heavenly Father who chose Jesus Christ to be our Savior and Redeemer. The atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ made it possible for us to overcome the effects of the fall of Adam and Eve. God sent his Beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to overcome the obstacles of sin in addition to the obstacle of physical death. We are not responsible for the fall of Adam and Eve but we are responsible for our own sins. As I continued to read and study the scriptures, many wonderful things were revealed to me, things that were always there and were now becoming apparent to me so fast. The more I read, the more I wanted to know. I was feasting on the words of the scripture and was being spiritually fed. Joseph Smith was visited for a number of nights by an angel called Moroni who told him about a book that would be revealed to him later in life. This book was the Book of Mormon, whose central purpose was to convince all people that Jesus is the Christ. It testified of Christ by affirming the reality of His life, mission, and power. It taught true doctrine concerning the Atonement of Jesus Christ..

How I live my faith

I have served the Lord in many different ways during my time in the church. I have been the Relief Society 1st Counselor, Primary Teacher and Sunday School Teacher of the Elizabeth Ward; Relief Society President twice serving in to different wards, Sunday School Teacher, Primary President and Primary Chorister, Choir Director and Chorister, and Yomen Women’s President of the Saint Louis 1st Branch; Genealogy Name Extractin Specialist, Family History Specialist and Activities Chairperson in Georgia; and Ward and Stake Missionary of the Saint Louis Stake. Being a ward and stake missionary was very exciting because I was able to go out and share the Gospel with others. To share the good news! Because of what I had learned through scripture study and teaching, was able to give people the happiness that the Gospel brings, a change of heart. After being baptized on January 28th, 1978, I was so full of joy and excitement about what I had learned about the Gospel that I made a commitment to my Heavenly Father that someday I would serve a mission. On November 20th, 2007, in preparation for my 30th anniversary of my baptism into the church on January 28th, 2008, I submitted my papers to serve a mission. On February 8th, 2008, I received my mission call from the Prophet Thomas S. Monson to serve in the Massachusetts Boston Mission in Natick, Massachusetts where I served for 19 months. When we share the Gospel as members or missionaries, our friends and investigators need to feel our convictions and testimonies about the Atonement of Jesus Christ. We are to testify of its truthfulness of this message. Jesus’ glorious Atonement is the central act in all human history. It provides the universal Resurrection; it makes our personal repentance and forgiveness possible. By personally understanding and believing in the Atonement, you and I can teach and testify of it with greater gratitude, greater love and greater power.
